My dismal GPU year continues, the RMA for the failed RMA for the failed RTX2080ti has failed, again after just a few weeks. The orginal card lasted nearly 3 years but both replacements lasted just weeks. So now RMAing the replacement of the replacement of the item with still a few days left in the 3 year warantee. I suppose the refurbished replacements are all old and tired too, but my previous RMAed GPU lasted 2 years not 2 weeks. I used to read about people on an endless RMA cycle, but this the first time for me to do a repeat.

So my story of finding an old GTX 1080 in a GTX 780 box made me wonder. When I moved last I dismantled two 2 GPU rigs and gave away to young players 2 of the gpus. What I thought was the GTX 1080 and GTX 980ti, well at least were the boxes that said that. After finding the GTX 1080 in my carton of 'old stuff' in a box marked GTX 780ti I decide to see what was in the box marked GTX 880ti.. and it was the GTX 980ti. So seems I switched boxes when packing and gave away the oldest cards in the newer boxes.
TLDR So have resurrected an old GTX 980ti while I wait for my RTX card to return from RMA.
I am surprised at its output under current circumastances currently running 1.3 mppd.

So my replacement for the 3 times failed RTX2080ti arrived and is back and folding, my 3year warrantee period ended today so this the last possible RMA, hopefully will last way longer than the 2 weeks the last two went for.

Issues with stats servers mean it looks like points not awarded, but as with previous times this has occurred they are just not transmitting so a catch up will occur when fixed.

Looking like the stats server will be down for a while, science still being done just stats delayed.

Update on stats server, has apparently been replaced and maybe up and running soon, but is weekend so maybe Monday. All data is being collected just not transmitted.

Has been a long time since I posted, the link to here on my sig is giving issues and suspect this related to the link to the folding stats.

Ah yes, minor driver version upgrades shouldn't make big differences but sometimes they do, I rarely upgrade drivers unless I have too once I find a nice stable one.

And I fall for it every time, ooh a new driver version, it must be better I will have to install it now.
I thought that the stats were getting better yesterday, but I stopped folding on one machine to see what difference it made. I closed the FAH processes and re-started them to see if that made any difference, if not I may just downgrade the drivers.

Hi Kiore,

It's been a while since I posted, hope all is well with you. I just caught up on the thread and was sorry to see your trials and tribulations with the 2080Ti card. I have been running a 2070Ti 24/7 since I started folding in March 2020 (so almost three years straight) and it has performed flawlessly... out of curiosity what brand is your 2080 Ti?

That said, I am recently fortunate enough to upgrade to a RTX 4090 and have been bringing it online this week. I think I finally have the kinks worked out, but now that it is starting to produce 24/7 I have found an issue that I am almost embarrassed to discuss but was hoping you might have an answer to. The card is so fast that I am achieving between 15 and 30 seconds per fold depending on the WU, and now the checkpoints are occurring about once a minute with F@H checkpointing every 2% of progress. Such frequent checkpoints are impacting the productivity and I have tried to scale the checkpoint frequency back using the Advanced Control, but the Checkpointing Frequency setting in the Advanced tab doesn't seem to do anything as no matter how long I set it to, it is still checkpointing every 2% of progress.

Am I doing something wrong or is there is some other setting for the checkpoint frequency that I am missing? Your thoughts appreciated...

Hey saw the sudden increase in output an RTX 4090 very impressive stuff.
Re checkpoints unless you had set it to more frequent, the frequency is set by the WU designer who maybe was not expecting such a powerful card. You may find this is only on certain work units and other don't have this limitation.
We do the work assigned and the extreme ends of the card power range may experience wildly fluctuating PPD between units.
I know people say this card should do 35MPPD but people frequently report their best data in these things. Some WUs won't be able to utilise the full resources of the card and I suspect the units you describe are small ones.

The other thing I suggest when starting with a new high power GPU is to not fold on teh CPU initially to see what the unrestrained GPU does monitoring on GPUZ for utilization and something like MSI Afterburner to monitor and adjust power and temp limits. It used to be we overclocked GPUs for performance now people tend to power limit instead.
