I had one in my grubby little hands today. It's a lovely piece if kit. What was it in particular that drew you to the Nokia?

They look nice and I wouldn't mind moving back to Nokia. I only got my first non-Nokia phone last year and don't really like it, a Galaxy GT-15500, though my friend has a high-end Galaxy and it's really nice also. It'll be one or the other. Certainly not the other major smart-phone on the market.

I'm more of a Samsung man myself. I have the Galaxy S and will upgrade to it's successor once this one snuffs it. Or on the successor's successor, if mine holds out that long. I absolutely love it.
The Lumia is a nice toy as well, though.

The phone is lovely but I wouldn't buy this until windows mobile takes off. So far they've got something like 5% market share, that's simply not enough to sustain itself.

The Samsung is even nicer when you use one of the custom OS you can get for it. Though I think that destroys the warantee.

The Nokia has a nice colour, though

I can't recommend the Galaxy SII enough. It's brilliant.

Yup. That's the reason why I stick to vanilla. I had the 200 Euros to buy the phone (in addition to a new contract) back then, but I can't afford the risk to kill it and then have to buy a new, decent phone for the original price.

My friend got a custom and it all looks so much more awesome now. But he has his phone insured. He said if something goes wrong and he can't fix it (unlikely, he knows his stuff) he'll just claim it was robbed and get a new one.

how's the battery life? I've hears stories of abysmally short usage periods (not even 1 day, etc.).

S2 is pretty good, essentially I've got its bigger brother, the Galaxy Note. ok, its got a huge battery (2500mAh compared to 1650mAh standard for S2 (official samsung extended is 2000mAh)) but at the same time its powering a massive screen (5.3" 1280*800 AMOLED) and I'm getting 2 days battery life out of it > 3-4 hours wifi, 1 hour games, 1 hour calls/text each day. and it then tends to topple over right at the end.

on top of that, has replaceable batteries, so buy a cheap one as spare, can substitute if needed > though with 2 days life I've not needed it yet

People panic when installing a custom ROM. If you follow the steps carefully nothing can go wrong. Haven't heard of anybody bricking their phone with a custom ROM installed. Did so myself probably a dozen times so far, testing out what is to my taste.

Now that the ICS sources are available to the devs there is already some sweet new versions popping up :)
Btw, most of the hardware parts you can replace yourself, I didn't even bother to protect my glass anymore as carefully as I did when I got it.

On the SGS2? Or are we talking Nokia? SGS2 + extended battery and optimized settings, moderate usage = 2 days.
Stock battery = 1 day unless it's idle all the time.

I really dont get samsungs decision with the stock battery. adding the extended battery adds what, a mm, essentially making the back flat, rather that the bump at the base for the antennas....

rather than this obsession with skinniest phone, give it a decent battery life instead....

I'm not afraid to brick it when flashing it. I'm afraid that - say - the screen will give out or the battery will die and I will have to pay for them myself because I voided the warranty by flashing the phone.

Fair enough. Still... the advantages of flashing the ROM outweigh any warranty concerns for me. I mean, how likely is it some hardware part goes kaputt within warranty time? Can't really argue against your warranty argument, however, I can't for the life of me deal with that buggy, ugly-as-hell stock look & feel :yuk:

It's like having a sweet ass car but the interior is full of vomit, pungent stench and...pink. :waah:
At least the official ICS update will make it more sleek and smooth but still...I'll probalby chance my mind once the battery explodes and the screen flickers

Indeed. Plus the horrid flimsy plastic back cover... does the job but looks cheap and wow is the phone light!
Bought myself a metal cover replacement but duh, now it doesn't fit with the thickness of the extended battery
I thought one mm wouldn't make that much of a difference.
