PS3 or X-Box, and why?

#1  Postby The_Metatron » Mar 09, 2010 9:30 pm

Although it's too late for me, if one were to advise on either of these two gaming consoles, what would you advise, and why?

I just bought a PS3, and have two games for it (for me), Call of Duty Modern Warfare, episodes 1 and 2. My basis of comparison is a Wii we got a few months ago, and a PS-1 I still have from 1999. So as far as I can tell, this machine is simply incredible. Loads of fun.

Well I'd have a Wii so not much use here. And mainly because Nintendo games are only available on Wii, and in my experience, they make the most consistently brilliant games in the world.

Unashamed plug here, PS3, why? Because they can do folding@home when you're not gaming on them..and get a slim, much less power hungry.

PS3, only because there's a greater dearth of games I want to play available on that system compared to XBox. Beautiful Katamari is basically the only XBox 360 game I have any interest in playing that isn't available on Playstation.

Exactly the opposite for me. Most of the games for PS3 that interest me are available on XBox. The only exception I can think of is the upcoming game made by the same people who did Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The Last Guardian, or whatever it's called. I expect it will be good.

PS3: just because in Soul Calibur for PS3 they have Darth Vader. In Xbox they had Yoda... Now, who would like to play? Darth Vader or Yoda?

Joking aside, I bought a PS3 system. There were always more games for the PS3 than for the Xbox, it is a very good Blu-ray player, and plays most Xvid/Divx files. Also you can change operating systems; you can easily change the HDD it comes with (I've done it and replaced the HDD with no trouble at all, just follow Sony's instruction on the manual...), and more.

PS3, since the HD-DVD system is dying, and of course, because of the Final Fantasy series, and there is no more "only on Xbox" but there's "only on PS3"

Xbox, because it functions as a media center extender! Not using it to play games very often...

I saw the new Final Fantasy advertised the other day, and it said Xbox 360 on it and didn't mention any other console. I don't know if it's exclusive, but it was definitely only advertised on Xbox.

Since I get my High Definition films via SKY tv (in the UK) blueray doesnt interest me at all. I dont want a HD-dvd player, I just want a games console to play games on.
I feel that dvd in any format is pretty close to dead in this day of digital streaming..
Both consoles have pretty much identical games but there are a few exclusives to both consoles (i.e gears of war/Halo series on the xbox)

I think the best answer is that if you want to game online then to go for whatever one most of your mates have....

If you dont want to play online then it doesnt matter which one you have as they both do the required job more or less the same

EDIT - TrampySnow is my xbox gamertag so anyone on that system feel free to send me a friend request

Just bought the new Final Fantasy for PS3. Waiting for it to arrive from amazon.

As for Media Extender, you can do that with the PS3 system. Just download Tversity for the PC, and you can have files on your PC, any file and play it on the PS3. Just connect your PS3 to your router and you're ready. TVersity sees the PS3 immediately.

PS3, solely on the basis that the units of Xbox currency are unimaginatively called 'Microsoft Points'. :nono:

I want a PS3 because there are finally some games out that I want to play. My fiance has 2 xbox 360's (first one red-ringed, bought a second, and MS replaced the first) and he loves the types of games that come out. With the exception of FFXIII, a lot of games are built for xbox first and ported to ps3.

*shrug* I still just use my N64 and GCN so I guess I can't really talk.
I am a work in progress.

Xbox360, mostly because I get a lot of graphics work from the indie games developers for the sustem. I'd settle for a PS3 tho, because of a) little big planet, and b) Soul Calibur - I was rather taken with Ivy in the PS2, and would like to see her shout 'Squirm!' in glorious HD.

Use to have access to a Wii, but that was kept by my ex. :(

Although I had the first Xbox and was a loyal fan, I've moved to PS3 with the next gen. of consoles.

From what I know the Xbox360 is reaching is limit of gaming capability whereas PS3 still has some room for expansion having bigger, badder games. Also the range of games for PS3 is better (although Xbox360 is streets ahead of the range they had for the oringal Xbox).

Its pretty close call really, but what really tips it in the PS3's favcour for me is free gaming online. Just plug it into the internet and you're good to go, with the 360 you have a pay a mothnly fee, fucking poppycock to that!

Modern Warfare 2 is an incredible game, I also recommend Uncharted 2 for simply amazing graphics and fun gameplay.
