Thinking of going all Apple

#1  Postby infiniteentropy » Dec 11, 2011 6:34 pm

Hi,

I'm looking to get a new computer/phone in the coming months and I'm seriously thinking of going all Apple. Today I tried to transfer our digital copy of Ice Age 3 to my Android phone for my son and found it wasn't straight forward and didn't seem to even be possible from iTunes. I transferred it to the iPad no problem.I'm now considering an iPhone and a MacBook Pro for my next upgrades to make an integrated digital life easier. Has anyone gone all Apple? Did you encounter any problems?

My day job is a .Net developer and I occasionally work from home via remote desktop over a VPN. Do you foresee a problem doing this from a Mac?

Also, has anyone put a Mac mini in the lounger under the TV? I'm thinking of doing this for music/films. I'm not loaded, so this will be a year long (or more project). But I'd be interested to know if anyone has done similar and if they had any problems?

All Apple since 2003. No compelling reason exists to change that. I never had any problems.

Somebody will be along shortly to tell you how Apple is all crap & work of the Devil, and how you should build your own PC for £1.99, out of an old B&W TV set, some egg boxes & an old toothpaste tube. And they'll call you a fan-bois. You have been warned.

Thanks. I've spent 14 years building PC's and I'm fed up with doing it.

And, it'll be ten times faster than any top-of-the-range Mac.

This should do the trick: Microsoft's RDC for Mac.

Thanks, it does look tempting. I've also convinced my other half, so its pretty much a done deal. Just need the pennies in the bank now.

I'm sure it'll work fine, but just rather expensive.

Been all Apple since 2005. Never regretted it.

That's the biggest problem, the price. For $600 (US), I got a really good PC that I can upgrade. It would cost up to double that to get an Apple, and it couldn't be upgraded.

Any of you know how to get games that require flash-player to work on an ipad2.
It wouldn't let me download flashplayer.....

Aggie should be along shortly...but I just want to say, as I've said a million times before, I  my iMac! But I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Mac person, even if I don't have an iPhone, iPad or iPod. I wouldn't really use any of those.

Mac, Pah. I’ve had the same home built puter for the last 10 years.
It originally cost me nothing as it was “recycled” then.
I have only replaced the case 3 times the motherboard 5 times the RAM 5 times and the processor 8 times.
And it still works great, though I do tend to break it and have to reinstall the OS from scratch at least once a year. ;)
Macs are for rich wimps.

This Mac devotee is far from rich, yet I'd still pay the extra for a Mac.

Reminds me of Trigger in Only fools and horses

Trigger has just been presented with an award for saving the council money.

Trigger: And that's what I've done. Maintained it for 20 years. This old brooms had 17 new heads and 14 new handles in its time.
Sid: How the hell can it be the same bloody broom then?
Trigger: Theres the picture. What more proof do you need?

The original is about a trusty knife:- I have replaced the blade x times and the handle y times.

If you are good at self builds you could try a hackintosh
