I posted this on the 'other forum' while this one was 'out of action'.
Could be interesting.

We're getting the Revolution and the Civil War for the first two episodes, which should provide some pretty good material, especially given the different ways the latter has been mythologized by the states historically on the opposing sides.

I'm not sure what the third will be but the promotional shots seem to suggest that it might be touching on the Cold War and/or the Space Race. Again, both very target-rich environments to put it mildly, but maybe we'll see something entirely different?

Nom de plume means someone who speaks for another? I did not know that.

Well Lucy was not disappointing as was Fiona. You know you are getting old when you find a 54 mother is attractive.

So plenty of fibs in American history. Who is surprised? You lot should be speaking French as respect for the country that saved you. Your militia were worthless. A load of amateurs. Your constitution was a fake. Paul Revere was a fraud. Washington was a huge slave owner. Never mind "all men are equal". American civil war next.

Is that a general comment or the contents of the next episode?

I thought the first episode was well presented but ultimately didn't tell me much new other than a few bits of trivia. I'd guess that it could have a lot more value though as counterpoint to the whitewashed and agenda-driven version of events presented by institutions like PragerU.

Also, it's confirmed that the third episode will be the Cold War.

The second episode about the Civil War was on last night. The freeing of the slaves was a three year after thought by Lincoln. The freed slaves were treated even harder after being freed. Share cropping was responsible for returning many back into slavery. States brought in stringent laws to curtail the freedom. A black person could go to prison for speaking to a white woman and up on the chain gang thanks to the 13th amendment. It was one hell of a mess whose effects are still being felt today. As always American media has played the prime role in the perception Americans have of their history. The KKK was a figment of a novel the "Clansman" which the film "Birth of a Nation" was based on and was responsible for their uniforms. The director said it was meant to make them stand out.

"Gone with the Wind" sanitised and sugarised the lives of slaves.

Liberty Bell was probably not rung at the first reading of the Constitution.
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

Did you notice that the Liberty Bell was cracked? Didn't know that. Perhaps it's an omen...

Enjoyed the second episode.
Did not know that the current incarnation of the KKK are essentially fan boys cos-playing 'Birth of a Nation'.

Yep. He never cared about the blacks. Three years after the start of "Civil War" he declared them all "free" whatever that was. 180,000 headed north and joined the Union Army.
