Bronze Age houses are Britain's 'Pompeii'

B.B.C. Article
Archaeologists say they have uncovered Britain's "Pompeii" after discovering the "best-preserved Bronze Age dwellings ever found" in the country.
The circular wooden houses, built on stilts, form part of a settlement at Must Farm quarry, in Cambridgeshire, and date to about 1000-800 BC.
A fire destroyed the posts, causing the houses to fall into a river where silt helped preserve the contents.
Pots with meals still inside have been found at the site.

Fascinating. Complex building structure too. I wonder what fasteners were used on the timbers.
The problem with fantasies is you can't really insist that everyone else believes in yours, the other problem with fantasies is that most believers of fantasies eventually get around to doing exactly that.

I think they're referring to the fact that there was a fire and the site was destroyed. Apparently they have found food in bowls discovered on site.

Yes, as in Pompeii. The sudden destruction of a site that has resulted in the preservation of artifacts. It's a stretch but I don't think it's that difficult to understand.

I think the issue was with the spelling in the thread title.

Yes, it should have read "Poppaea", the wife of Nero, who, of course, burned down Rome.

I've not done any research into this so might be about to embarrass myself, but when I heard about this on BBC tv news the other day, I wondered how several stilted houses built upon a river could lose just their stilts in a communal fire? Also, why build your houses on a river? For defensive reasons?

Feel free to take the piss. I probably deserve it.
