Not sure if this belongs in this board, but yeah. Thought I'd share these images. It's really breathtaking stuff. So freaking good, yet so long ago.

Those are amazing. It's...insane to know that they're over a hundred years old now

In picture 14, the man is 84. So you're looking at a colour photograph of someone who was born in 1825 :awe:

We had a thread about these photos a while ago but it's lovely to see them again.

The people look so modern that it's hard to accept how long ago they lived and died.

Thanks for posting them.

I can't get my head round it. I've seen these before but it's still so difficult to comprehend that time period in colour, it makes everything seem much more connected and real.

I've seen them before, but it's great to see them again; absolutely gorgeous photographs.

I can't stop looking at these pictures. This is the first time I've realized that...yeah, this may be old, but fuck, it's still real

Why aren't there many more photos like this from that time period? Was it just too expensive? There must have been other people to have done it though, does anyone have more links to this sort of stuff?

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_talk: ... kii-19.jpg

No-one on Wikipedia believes it.

I've heard of this method - using coloured filters, then recombining them in projection - before, but I believe that people saw it more as a novelty than serious photography. Considering how long it took colour photography to be accepted as art by the art world, that's not surprising. I don't have any of my photography books with me though, so I can't look it up.

Superb photos, thanks for the link! ;)

The images look so fresh, it's though they could have been taken only yesterday.
