USA's War Plan Red - against the UK

I watched an interesting documentary tonight about something I had no knowledge of: the USA's plan to wage war again the British. A plan which was only scrapped as late as 1939:

A couple of interesting and surprising claims:

1) Hitler had hoped that Britain and the USA would go to war - and for Britain to win.
2) America wouldn't have won the war. At best, they would have conquered Canada and sued [eventually] for peace as the Royal Navy would have controlled and harassed the Eastern Seaboard.

We have to remember that these plans were developed in the mid-20's, though updated in the mid-30's. Yet, I'm still struggling to see how Britain could have had any kind of positive outcome from such an eventuality. By that time, Britain was a much-weakened power.

Does anyone here have any in-depth insight into these plans, or any opinion upon how events may have unfolded, had the plan became a reality?
They came, they saw, they concurred.
