It's kinda complicated. You can read about it here:

http://www.rationalskepticism.org/islam ... 4-140.html?

Basically, because I broke the rules of their forum here on this forum, they considered that grounds for the ban hammer. I kid you not.

The problem with fantasies is you can't really insist that everyone else believes in yours, the other problem with fantasies is that most believers of fantasies eventually get around to doing exactly that.

Nope. And why would that matter anyway? A person's feelings about reality are not going to change it.

Depressed? Yeah, depressed that the rest of the world not only believes ghost stories from a million years ago are true, but that people who don't share their strange delusions should be oppressed, silenced, and discriminated against.

That IS depressing to me.

When I was a Christian, to face the reality of sadness, pain, and loss while assuming that an inscrutable Father was allowing or causing it left me feeling somewhat unsteady as though standing on wet ice. When I abandoned the belief that all of these negative conditions were "for a reason", I was far happier in the face of them.

Now, when I stand upon the seashore at night and listen to the pounding surf under a brilliant canopy of stars, rather than feel awestricken at the power of their sculptor, I feel equally inspired but also genuinely connected to the scene, knowing that I came from those same stars and carry the sea in my cells.

I know people who, being depressed, made them atheists. Does that count?

As an ex-Muslim I have to say absolutely NOT.

Nope. Does the highly likely probability that atheists are right, making your whole mythological world view and theo-egocentric personal identity a sham make you depressed? Jus' wondering.

What a silly question.

Does being a Muslim make you feel depressed?

From my perspective, there's a whole lot more to be depressed about if you are a Muslim than if you are a non-believer. Things like members of your religion wantonly abusing, torturing, and murdering others in the name of your religion. The way your religion treats females and non-believers. The requirement for you to spend your life genuflecting yourself 5 times a day to an unseen deity that surely doesn't give a toss about the squishy bags of meat prostating themselves.

If you mean because I think that when I die I won't go onto a celestial orgy, well, first of all, I was dead for billions of years before I was alive, and it didn't seem to present any unacceptable levels of hardship, and secondly, every night when I go to sleep, I lose consciousness of myself, and it's really not a cause of any angst.

On the other hand, if I thought I was going to spend an eternity - that's a bloody long time - being expected to leap through deistically ordained circles, I might feel a tad out of sorts. Lucky it's make-believe!

There's many kinds of "Muslims". If you dont mind me asking, which kind are you? Which sect do you think is the correct type of "Muslim"?

Of course, as an atheist I'm depressed. Depressed at the state of the rest of the human race with it's never ending exhibitions of gullibility and just plain stupidity.
Now that I enjoy rational thinking and freedom from religion, I stand outside the box of human superstitions and wonder at the apparently moronic behaviour and feel so sad.

To be strictly accurate, he has not logged in since August. He could be a guest right now, for all we know.

He probably got depressed from all the 'no' answers he had faith would not be forthcoming.
