Payam Tamiz, a muslim who is a Thanet (area in south-east UK) Conservative election candidate has referred to local women as "sluts". This is his Twitter entry:

"Girls in THANET ... you are all slags, hoes, brasses and bheads."

The Westminster Law graduate said that his comments were "immature". Give it a few more years Payam and then you can introduce your head scarves and sharia law into the area? Sigh.

He'd have a job. Thanet has like three black people, one random Arab and a couple of chinese who run the takeaways. Tower Hamlets it most certainly is not.

The comment was apparently made long before he was involved with the conservative party. It's more likely just random emotional crap on the internet than anything as insidious as you are suggesting.

Do the electors want candidates who are too stupid to remove random emotional crap from the web when they decide to stand for election? It was his personal facebook page, after all, not a random drunken remark left on a forum somewhere. (Hic!)

Probably not, although one can never be sure considering the stupidity of some people who get elected.

But the party clearly didn't want him, as he's been sacked.

He was 21 and obviously a bit green to be a politician.

According to the screencaps taken by the BBC, these comments were made in July 2010. I thought it took a bit longer than six months to rise sufficiently up the Tory ranks to be considered election material even for the lowest tiers of government ...

Local government. I don't think you can get much lower than that in Tory eyes at the moment. As proven by putting Derek "halal school dinners" Pickles in charge of it.

Even so, they're usually a bit more careful than this at vetting candidates, unless the candidate has a title and owns half of Berkshire. Usually they only let fully accredited toffs commit gaffes like this.

I was just trying to point out that slut is a much worse term than the ones listed in the OP so it seemed weird to attribute that to him when he hadn't said it.

The Islamic approach to women is not something I have much real knowledge of. I bet some muslim women are treated like princesses, others like trolls. I doubt any universal generalisation would fit accurately given that it's very difficult to square Danish Islamaphobic propoganda with the affable Hijab wearing bank clerk I met the other day.

That seems to be a deficit of the English language. I would like there to be some more terms. "Horndog" seems a bit silly. "Predator" has connotations which are not accurate. I guess for now "Man-whore" will have to do.

Anyway, one of my girlfriends proudly self-identifies as a slut. If the term is good enough for her, it's quite good enough for me.

The idea that the word "slut" is insulting is based on the idea there is something bad about a woman's being sexually libertine. I don't have that basic idea; I think it's great. The Tory Muslim obviously has that idea. Maybe you have that idea, too, which you're entitled to do. However, projecting it on me is stupid.
