Would you support the forced closure of all mosques...

#1  Postby Keep It Real » Jun 22, 2015 2:49 pm

I was bored so decided to try and think of something controversial to talk about...and here it is!

Why?
Why just mosques and not every other woo peddling establishment?

Islamic ideology seems to lead to more strife than the other woo types. Perhaps Anglicanism is less pernicious, no?

I don't think there'll be much controversy on this question, TBH.

Reporting bias and confirmation bias, combined with a short-sighted remembrance of history.

So you're both saying Anglicanism is just as bad as Islam. I disagree but in any case closing down all the mosques would be a useful step toward Christianity's extirpation no doubt.

No, I said no such thing. Anglicanism doesn't have the length of history that Islam does - for a valid comparison, you have to go beyond individual Christian sects and look at the whole history. There, claims that Islam is worse tend to fall apart.

Forced closure will solve nothing, and generate many, many problems. Bad idea on many fronts.

A bloody silly idea. Now if you could find a means to contain religious fuckwittery in mosques & churches etc, that would be worth supporting.

I would say stop the tax free status of religious institutions. That's the aspect of these places that sticks in the craw.

Additionally, generalizing Islam isn't helpful. Are Ismaili mosques a problem?

My impression is that this idea is mostly supported by those who want to establish a Christian theocracy. The existence of religious institutions belonging to other faiths is an impediment to that goal.

Not a practical idea. Better that they (and churches, etc) close on their own due to a lack of members.

Terrible idea. Better the nutters are out in the open where we can keep an eye on them. Close them and you'll force them underground, and likely radicalize them even further.
