I think that this can be said for just about any major mathemathical theory. There is no serious mathemathical course that in the beginning wouldn't look completely unconnected to the real world.susu.exp wrote:The main issue here is that all of this stuff is the foundation of measure theory and the motivation for it comes from the things that arise later.

Actually, in those pdf's that were linked I thought the author did a good job of presenting the direction early on. That is some pretty stuff.
