I think that this can be said for just about any major mathemathical theory. There is no serious mathemathical course that in the beginning wouldn't look completely unconnected to the real world. :grin:

Actually, in those pdf's that were linked I thought the author did a good job of presenting the direction early on. That is some pretty stuff.
