i have taken Calculus I, II, and III in college. aren't logatithems tought in pre-calulus classes in the 11th or 12th grade? why are slide rules needed for middle school?

to knitpick, isn't sliding a cursor on a slide rule and transcribing it the same as using a calulator the same way?

No. It isn't. The calculator (the person) must correctly place the decimal point.
