First Steps Taken To Combat Huntington's Chorea

#1  Postby Calilasseia » Dec 12, 2017 11:15 pm

Until very recently, Huntington's Chorea was considered to be one of those diseases beyond the reach of medical science. even though much was known about the underlying mechanisms. Now, the first clinical trials of a gene silencing therapy appear to be showing promise, and could pave the way for bringing this particularly nasty condition within the remit of therapeutic agents.

More on this here, and here.

Quite frankly, I never thought I would live to see even this level of advancement in the case of Huntington's, and that this has been achieved now, is a serious cause for celebration. According to the latest press releases from University College London, which has been pursuing the requisite research, the preliminary results exceed expectations by a considerable margin.

Not quite time to pop the champagne corks, but a lot more progress than was expected.
