Gluten sensitivity and the "nocebo" effect

#1  Postby scott1328 » May 19, 2014 12:33 am

Apparently the recent fad in "gluten-free" diets is just that. There is no such thing as non celiac gluten sensitivity., and a multi billion dollar industry is based on faulty science.

So I didn't have to fuck around making all those special meals for people with non celiac "gluten intolerance"? God dammit.

Don't sweat it, have a cookie, or donut, cake, or pie, or slice of bread.

Red velvet funnel cake. Best carnival food I've ever shoved in my face. Also terrible.

...any one of which is a lot nicer than a rice cake!

This doesn't surprise me. It was always obvious that many of the people wanting to cut out gluten were doing it as part of a fad diet. One of my house-mates did. She trusts herbs more than medicine.

But at least it has lead to the development of a wide range of foods for people that do have celiac disease.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]
