A University of Connecticut researcher known for his work on red wine's benefits to cardiovascular health falsified his data in more than 100 instances, and nearly a dozen scientific journals are being warned of the potential problems after publishing his studies in recent years, officials said Wednesday.

UConn officials said their internal review found 145 instances over seven years in which Dr. Dipak Das fabricated, falsified and manipulated data, and the U.S. Office of Research Integrity has launched an independent investigation of his work. Continued...

Is he the only, or the principal, source of data on the supposed beneficial effects of red wine?

To my knowledge no, and I think the article said there were other independent researchers who had published as well but I think he's the primary one behind the majority of the data.

What I find interesting is that when Diederik Stapel was found to be falsifying data in psychology, otherwise rational people made comments along the lines of "Oh, this is what's wrong with psychology" and "Falsifying data? Isn't that just how psychology research is done?" etc, and yet I can't find anybody claiming that Das' dishonesty disproves the validity of medicine (outside of obvious cranks and nutjobs).. :think:
