Anyone from Belgium here ?

#1  Postby Ciwan » Apr 26, 2012 6:55 pm

Howdy Friends

Is anyone from Belgium here ? I'm visiting in June, and would like some intelligent company down at the pub over a beer. Will be staying with family there, but also want to chat with some locals of Bruxelles (Brussels), see what their thoughts are ... etc

Also would it be OK to walk around Bruxelles with some of my Atheist T-Shirts ? I hear Bruxelles has a large Muslim population, and I'm not sure who's side the authorities are on when it comes to freedom of expression.

Thank You.

I'm confused ! You mean this Metatron (as a joke) ? Or there is a member here called Metatron ? :ask:

UPDATE: Just looked through members and can't find anyone named Metatron. Sorry Campermon, not sure what you meant.

Oh Ok ! Found him, but he has the US flag, so I'm guessing he's from the US.

I'm from Belgium, but I won't be there in June, I'm afraid. There's quite a couple of Belgians on the forum, though...

Not entirely sure, to be honest. I don't think it would be a problem. Then again, the only place in Brussels that I've been to in the last five years or so is the airport. Don't go there very often. I usually stick to Ghent...

As long as you stick to the centre of town, i.e. inside the inner ring road (the area has the shape of a pentagon and is known as such), you'll be fine.

If you do wander further afield - especially west and north - you have to keep your wits about you, regardless of attire.

Cool thank you Sgt Kelly :)

Question about Wifi. I will have my iPhone with me, but would turn off Mobile Roaming (it'll cost a fortune if I keep it on). Do the restaurants and pubs have free Wifi ? also are there Wifi HotSpots ?

Thanks

Yes, you shouldn't have any problems with Wifi. Here's a map with free hotspots:

Btw, forget Brussels. Visit Ghent and Antwerp, those are much more beautiful cities
