Yeah I stand for the same thing as their organisation but I refuse to associate myself with a group that is that arrogant.

The Brights aren't arrogant as a group. They have made it perfectly clear that the word "bright" was chosen (and turned into the noun "bright") solely in reference to the age of enlightenment.

I like Daniel Dennetts idea of brights, the rational skeptics, and supers, the supernaturalists.

Then everyone has a positive nickname...

Ah OK, good. . Still the first thing you think when a group of secular intellectuals call themselves 'bright' is "I wonder how they fit all those egos into a conference room". So they aren't off to a good start spreading their ideas when they have to explain a misunderstanding to everyone.

They should bite the bullet and hire a marketing guy to sort out the name now because the name will always create the same first impression. Secular Humanists maybe? You could shorten it to 'SecsH' but only if Sean Connery joins.

I concede that, marketingwise, it wasn't the cleverest decision to use the name "the Brights". But now that it exists, I wish that people with a naturalistic worldview wouldn't refuse to associate themselves with the Brights just because of the more or less unfortunately chosen name.

Of course, there's nothing at all arrogant about groups that call themselves things like God's Chosen People, God's Country, the Elect, etc, ....

The Reason Rally looks like fun. Lots of good speakers, acts etc. It will definitely be the biggest gathering of the godless ever.

This vid and the "brights" makes me want to go a little less but I still would like to be there.

Someone needs to do a quality vid with a Bad Religion soundtrack, Pictures and quotes from famous atheists, some of the Washington landmarks etc. Then we would have ourselves a festival. Make even the moderately religious wish they were there.
