Best band/singer from where you're from

#1  Postby I'm With Stupid » Jul 23, 2016 2:50 pm

Show us the best band or singer that comes from your city/county/state.

I'm from Cumbria. This is probably the best band to come out of there.

Gram Parsons was a Floridian, he attended the same boarding school I did, 7 years before me. Lynyrd Skynyrd played at our high school dances. Then there's Tom Petty, Bo Diddly, The Allman Brothers, Jim Morrison, Molly Hatchet, The Outlaws, .38 Special, Ray Charles, Flo Rida, Miami Sound Machine, KC and the Sunshine Band, Mofro, The Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose, Pitbull, Terence Trent D'Arby, Jimmy Buffet (we've adopted him, he was born in Alabama), Limp Bizkit, Florida Georgia Line, The Royal Guardsmen (Snoopy and the Red Baron), Slim Whitman, Mel Tillis. Lots of jazz guys, Cannonball Adderley and his brother Nat, Pee Wee Ellis, Fats Navarro, and a lot of session players.

Best? I'd go with The Allman Brothers. They were from my home town, Daytona, Greg used to show up regularly and sit in with local bands.

In that case, the correct answer is Massive Attack.

Or Portishead.

I dunno where I'm from, so these are places I have lived with a few left out because no one who is anyone seems to have come from there.

Oakville, Ontario, the Barenaked Ladies come from Scarborough, Ontario.

Bristol, see Bill's page.

High Wycombe, Ian Dury, Young Guns, Howard Jones, Dusty Springfield.

Winchester, can't find any but there must be.

Eastleigh, Heinz Burt, apparently.

Oxford, Supergrass, Foals, Radiohead, Candyskins.

St Helens, The Loungs.

Liverpool, nope, can't think of any.

She revelled in adventure and imagination.

Wasn't there some boy band from Liverpool back In the 60s? Can't think of their name.

A few choices. Neil Young? Joni Mitchell? The Band? Cowboy Junkies? More recently, Fucked Up, Crystal Castles, The Weeknd. Oh I guess I should mention Rush and Drake, though neither of them are really my thing.

I'm from Manchester, so there's only really one choice:

Oh yeah, there was this band call The Smiths too, but I just couldn't take them that seriously.

Wasn't there that Manchester band that sung about wanting to be a door?

This might be familiar to some of our non-Dutch members:

The only singer I know of to come from the place where I was born was...Craig David.

Would someone leave a Remington on my nightstand please? Thank you.

The Scots are pretty crap at contemporary music.

I could rattle off some folk names, but Silly Wizard probably top the list. Half the members used to live not too far away.
70s had the lead singer from The Sweet, and also Alex Harvey.

On the negative side we gave you The Proclaimers, Travis, Franz Ferdinand, Simple Minds, The Bay City Rollers.

No matter what he says, we are not responsible for Rod Stewart.
