These early-mid 80s ones I'm posting, while not the most iconic overall, were the theme tune to my childhood. I remember watching the Ashes to Ashes video half in fascination at the music, half in fear at the scary man in the clown outfit. Let's Dance marked the height of his commercial career and is really not the type of music I go for, but for some reason I can't put my finger on it just grabbed me immediately and never let go - despite SO MUCH stiff competition from him, it's still my favourite. It's something to do with that intro, the percussion, the irony and the way he screams out 'floooooooower!!!'(and the bleach blond hair). This is not America brings to mind an afternoon in my best friend's garden in Bristol, aged roughly 11, listening on a transistor radio, building a snowman while he sang 'snowman melting from the inside, falcon spirals to the ground'.

Just...gutted.
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

As Simon Pegg said:

"If you're alive today, just remember that the world is over 4 billion years old and you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie."

In the event
that this fantastic voyage
Should turn to erosion
and we never get old
Remember it's true, dignity is valuable
But our lives are valuable too

It's not from Pegg though. Someone else tweeted it yesterday, before Bowie died:

This song's already been posted, but I love the simplicity of this video:

(Also a reminder that, until only recently, in the UK even rich people had bad teeth.)

My daughter, the aspiring writer, is really pissed because they were supposed to collaborate on a project. He knew nothing about it, of course, but she insists it was going to happen.

Personally, it's almost like a death in the family.

^^^Very prominent nostril holes. :yuk:
This is my favorite Bowie song. I didn't even know this was by Bowie until recently. I get him and The Kinks mixed up. :shifty:

Great rhythm guitar by Carlos Alomar on that (I used to think it was an electric piano or something). A very underrated player.

And my day came crashing down.
The Bible is full of interest. It has noble poetry in it; and some clever fables; and some blood-drenched history; and some good morals; and a wealth of obscenity; and upwards of a thousand lies.

"Are you OK?
You've been shot in the head
And I'm holding your brains"
The old woman said
So I drink in the shadows
Of an evening sky
See nothing at all

The stars look so special
And the snow looks so old
