So I find Epica quite a conundrum to listen to. On one hand, I love their music. On the other hand, I feel kinda fidgety listening to all of their anti-organized religion songs, especially with my past. On the other hand, I love this album a lot. I guess I can look past awkward lyrics which bring up odd feelings for good music.

I've had :this: album in my car for the last like...month. Awesome.

on the 'New To Me" front:

Quite possibly my new favourite metal album.

I love Wintersun!! Pretty much all the Finnish symph/power metal bands are in my top list of bands.

@Ani

It actually took me forever to get into it. All throughout high school I was an arena rock fan, the music my dad listened to. Styx, Foreigner, Journey, Queen, Boston, and grew into the glam metal of the 80's. That transition into glam metal made me appreciate fast rhythm, melodic power chords, and soaring vocals which when I was introduced to Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, I actually started liking them. But my real exposure to the music above was when I was reading Dragonlance and wikipedia'd the series and heard about Nightwish. So I bought their first album and loved the folk-power metal blend. Also, as a keyboard player, the heavy focus on keyboards was amazing! And then it is all history from there, from Nightwish I discovered the symph/power metal Europe offers and it fits me so well!

Speaking of which, this song is probably my theme song.

It's alright but I prefer the more Celtic pagan sounds of Irish metal band Primordial.

But then I would, I guess.

I just prefer Vikings and Celts to trolls and elves I suppose :D

You know there's Viking metal, right? Unsurprisingly, really, seeing as the Scandinavians practically own metal.

They come from the town next to me (Skerries, 6km away) and yet I'd never heard of them until an American told me about them just three years ago :nono:

I don't have their new album yet, but Periphery is pretty damned good, too.

 I get to see 3 awesome bands in September!

The first is Delain, from the Netherlands.

The second is Eklipse, an all female chamber band!

and the final is the headliner, Kamelot! (a video I already linked, but will again because it's awesome!)

I just downloaded (from emusic, I love that site) an album by Timmo Tolkki's Avalon, called The Land of New Hope. Supposed to be a Metal Opera. Still listening to it, but the first track is promising.

This track specifically is really fucking good. The male vocalist (not sure who at the moment) sounds almost like Bruce Dickinson, especially in the chorus.

Elize Ryd is the female vocalist on that album. I love her! But I also bought that album back in May, and it kicks ass!

Edit to add: Also Rob Rock (Impellitteri), and Russell Allen (Symphony X) are the primary male singers, with Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica) on the song We Will Find a Way.
