Thanks for all these so far. Sorry, I haven't the time to comment on all of them, but do keep them coming!

I particularly like The Mighty Rio Grande, who remind me somewhat of God Is An Astronaut, although GIAA tend to get somewhat louder, and I'd say were more in the "post-rock" genre....whatever that might be!

I have The Pentateuch!

I used the have the vinyl and the book cover that came with it. When I moved over to France I sold much of my record collection on ebay, and got a pretty penny for that. Of course, I recorded everything first!

The artwork is superb, and I miss looking through the book.

I haven't played it for ages, so thanks for the reminder!

Great choices, BWE. I love Toadstool Soup. Brilliant! And Sabbath, of course.

Now, the earlier post by The Doors reminded me of the days when I would find anything I could regarding West Coast Psych. My favourite band at the time were Quicksilver Messenger Service, especially their 1st 2 albums when Dino Valenti was in the nick.

Here's Calvary, from Happy Trails.

Zeppelin did a fair bit of good tripping tunes too. This is an all timer, not obscure but excellent to put your head between the speakers with the blacklight and blacklight posters overhead.:

Can I post a recommendation here for Digital Moonscapes by Wendy Carlos? You can now obtain a remastered CD version from the artist herself here.

Meanwhile, since we've had the Tomita version of Holst's Mars, The Bringer Of War, how about the seriously bass-loaded Emerson, Lake & Palmer version? Turn up the volume and enjoy some serious aural apocalypse ...

I chose one of their more tranquil numbers as an easy in.

Oh and the band is This Will Destroy You - the track is The Mighty Rio Grande. :)

I suppose offering Stockhausen's Helicopter Symphony is a bit of an outlier here? :D

EDIT: that should of course have been Helicopter String Quartet. The logistics of a symphony involving helicopters would probably be beyond the margins of safety. :)

 Just to torture myself - how much did you get for the Pentateuch? My copy was accidentally donated to charity along with my copy of Blue Monday :whine:
