Oi! That belongs in the Prog Rock thread! :pissed:

Anyhow, I see you peeps have opened yet another can of U-t00b videos I can't resist putting my paw in

Here's a couple of my fave ones from the top of my head...

One of the great modernizers of the Scotland scene here with something a bit different:

And then, perhaps the best thing to come out of that revival -- the late lamented Martyn Bennett:

Another late great one, but from a quite different culture -- Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan:

For more of a "new agey pop meets WM" kinda mood, I can haz Loreena McKennit

and of course the Irish classic Clannad:

And if that gets one in a mood for a something with a serious beat for a change, there's Kodo:

That's all I have time for now, to finish of with the prequisite Finnish act, here's Värttinä with a very popular tune from a few years back (it was fairly big hit in Finland all told, not just in the WM circles):

The dog, the dog, he's at it again!

A bit cheesy I know (well it is Yanni after all), but lovely duduk playing from Pedro Eustache with Samvel Yervinyan & Armen Movsessian on fiddles.

This thread is a goldmine!

In September I'm hosting four two hour episodes of a Folk & World Music radio show on a community radio station (see link in sig) called New Folk Order, and I've got lots of nice things here, so thank you people.

Surprised no-one has yet mentioned the Master Musicans of Jajouka.

EDIT: Good luck with the radio shows MacIver. Keep me posted and I'll tune in.

^Hmm. Putting the 'C' into RAP I think...

@MacIver: Will your show be streamed on't'tinternet?

Lebanese producer and saxophonist Toufic Farroukh from his Drab Ze'en Cd. Nice mix of East meets West recorded mostly in Paris.

And while we're in the same area.... Yasmin Levy is a fab Ladino singer from Jerusalem. This clip is interesting because it has a snippet of her father Yitzhak Levy, on the end, a renown Israeli cantor.

It will be yes, I'll also be hosting an Alternate Chart show that'll probably be made up partly from the World Album Chart too.

Don't worry, I'll be advertising it quite profusely on here closer to the time.

Splendid stuff. :D

Some fantastic Oud playing in these clips. Here Nasser Houari plays his fingers off while the man from the Moroccan security services breaths down his neck, just waiting for him to miss a note!

The traditional Vietnamese repertoire of vocalist Huong Thanh given a bit of spin by Vietnam's jazz-fusionsit guitar hero Nguyen Le. This is from a lovely, 5-star CD, which manages to avoid the kind of new-agey bollocks often associated with 'westernising' Eastern musics.
