Interesting to see Jamaican dancehall cross-fertilising it's own origins.

Don't know whether Jamaican dancehall has much to do with it, more like mixing zouk and coupé-décalé with hip-hop.

@ THWOTH: on somewhat closer inspection, Jamaican dance influence is there, but lies further in the past through especially Kassav of the French Caribbean who then influenced music in Francophone Africa.

I'm off to see Alash in a few weeks time. I'm increadibly excited, having been a big fan of Tuvan traditional music since seeing the Paul Peña/Roko Belic documentary Ghengis Blues when it came out. The Tuvan tradition isn't the only one to employ throat singing--producing multiple (over)tones on the same note--but I think it's the most dramatic and virtuosic of the traditions that do use it. Some snippets...
