Experienced rookie here

#1  Postby andre » Jan 02, 2013 5:17 pm

Hi all,

I'm Andre, proud grandfather, forum member elsewhere and climate sceptic. Why? because the Jarkov Mammoth on discovery channel's documentary "Raising the mammoth" wiped the floor with paleoclimatic climate change projections. That made me study and study and study. What else can you do after retirement anyway? Looking TV?? you got to be kidding.

Looking forward to interesting discussions.

Andre

Yes, most certainly, want to talk about it? I'm offering my left cheek too. :dopey: Let the fallacies begin.

This is Rational Skepticism, isn't it? Or am I in the wrong building?

Also, any initiation folklore to attend to?

Edit: I'm podering about my signature to be, what would you think?

Hello and Welcome

What do you mean when you say you are a "Climate Skeptic"? Are you skeptical that there is such a thing as the Climate, or are you skeptical of the views expressed by the Climate or are you skeptical only in certain Climates or is it something else? :ask:

Welcome aboard

I am not skeptical of the climate, I went outside and checked, there is definitely a climate there. Having said that, I'm sure you might find a climate thread or two to interest you, or make your own if you prefer.

There are a couple of climate threads about already.

But maybe I can contribute a bit to the climate picture by sharing some paleo climatal blunders and elaborating on the real null hypothesis on greenhouse effect, if somebody might be interested.

Or maybe the sociology of groupthink, witch hunt, moral panic, etc?

WellI used to waste a couple of thousand posts in a forum that would inquire rookies about their favorite fish for the fish slapping ceremony,

although the roots of that amusing happening are much older.

hmm, I can't use image tags?

Fair question. Let's say that I used to be skeptical that climates sensitivity for doubling CO2 exceeds one degree kelvin, ie that there is "positive feedback" anyway. Next I became skeptical -after identifying some strong negative feedback factors- that climate sensitivity could be much more than 0.5 degrees for doubling CO2. Now, after thinking over the real null hypothesis, I could argue to some extent that climate sensitivity may just be negative as well.

I think I prefer the cream over the strawberry.

Welcome! Denying climate change while living in the Netherlands is about as cocky as standing in the middle of a field wearing a copper helmet during a thunderstorm...
