When I was at RDF I used to do imaginary profiles of prominent members. Did maybe twenty to thirty in
all including hackenslash. I said that he would go and play drums in a garage at night when he could not

Schama isn't, I don't think, but he probably should be.
Edit: I should note that I never got on with Starkey. Far too much of the William Shitner school of dramatic delivery. Schama has always been my fave of that ilk.

I was more reserved in how I communicated, but I'm pretty much the same. Just simultaneously 5 years smarter and 5 years dumber.
I was apolitical then, so I thought. I took one of those online political tests linked here somewhere, and iirc I was lower and to the left of the dali Lama and Noriega. Now that I pay attention just a tad, I'm definitely low and to the left.No pun intended.

I think you shall find that Schama gesticulates with just as much abandon as Starkey when given the space
I find all that unnecessary myself because it distracts from what they are saying but none of us are perfect
Starkey is a loose cannon with his borderline rascism and sexism but as a historian he ought to know better
And if he was not gay he would probably be homophobic too and so I suppose one must be grateful for that

I've got no problem with gesticulating. I do have a problem with... the... dramatic... pause... for... effect...
As I said, straight out of the William Shitner school of dramatic delivery, and the reason that, although I love sci-fi, I loathe Star Trek TOS.
Can't stand Starkey, which is a shame because, although most of his work has covered one of my areas of interest (Tudor through restoration), I can't watch him for more than five minutes before I turn off in disgust. He's trying too hard to be interesting.
