Greetings from NOLA

#1  Postby Richiyaado » May 31, 2013 11:24 pm

Hello all,

I've been looking for a forum like this for awhile, not so much to post myself, but to find interesting, often more informed perspectives that suit my interests. Years ago, I would post occasionally at infidels.org, but that forum no longer exists. I'm glad to have found this one.

Welcome! Do you like camping, fishing, or drinking beer? Well, you've come to the right place. Also, if you don't like those things, you've also come to the right place. Perhaps you are indifferent to one or more of those things. Well, let me tell you something, you have come to the right place. Indeed, RatSkep caters for all needs, likes, dislikes, and indifference. Whatever you're into, you can be assured a polite conversation about it with the various members here. Please feel free to put on a pair of fluffy slippers and make yourself at home.

I do enjoy leisure camping, unless forced into it by having to flee from hurricanes. Fishing not so much. And one can never be indifferent to beer.

From the Big Easy eh?!

I bet it's as hot as hell there! I went there a few years ago in July, and bejasus is was like a sauna! Only air con and cold beer kept me alive!

Welcome!

Someone, I forget who, said that if the climate here were a dog, it would be humping your leg. We've had a long, pleasant Spring, though. But this being the first day of hurricane season, it will no doubt heat up soon. And beer is a good bet in any weather.

Richiyaado,

When the water gets too deep come on up to Arkansas, we have hills. Bring beer, as the Christofascist have mandated no sales of any kind of booze.

:-)

Welcome, fellow southerner.

Some folks worship imaginary dudes in the sky. Us facing a summer in the US south pray to the air conditioner. No shit.

 (please don't stop working, please don't stop working ...)

You can't buy beer in Arkansas?

No, campermon, just some counties are dry. Lucky me, living in one of those. It's a 50 mile one way ride to a place where I can buy a few beers. No, there's separation of church and state here.

Crikey!

I thought 'dry counties' were just something from the movie 'Porky's'!

Well, I do know of a beautiful glass still within just a few miles, and some nectar drips from its ass.

You folks have no idea unless you've been in the south. It's a world unto itself.

Sorry for the derail, let's get back to welcoming Richiyaado.

Aye!

I'll raise my glass to that! (on beer break from chopping trees)

Sorry to hear about the beer difficulty in Arkansas. We don't have that problem in NOLA, where beer flows freely at any hour. But we're not really the South, much to the distaste of many in the near North. (I'm not a Southerner either, having emigrated from Minnesota.) Anyway, next time we're driven off by impending doom, we'll be happy to bring the beer!

Ha, next time!

We have our own flooding and tornadoes to deal with.

"You betcha" eh? I spent a few years out in western South Dakota, and loved summer nights up there.

I'm not a native Arkie either. I was born and spent most of my youth in eastern Washington.

So, what took you to NO?

Originally came for a job, but that was long ago. Have stayed because the food, music and willful intemperance suit us... it's not really America here. My mother was from South Dakota... once went to a family reunion in Mitchell, home of the Corn Palace. I still say "You betcha!," too. Can't be helped.

Ah the Corn Palace! Actually pretty cool when I saw it last. The starlings thought it was great.

ETA: What about all those fucking Wall Drug signs? Argh!!

I hailed from Lemmon, in the very NW corner.

One thing those folks do that really threw me was the way they'd say, "Well, I suppose." They would then get up and walk away. It took me a long time to figure out that they were leaving off, "I better be going."

Alas, the Corn Palace was not in full kernel when we saw it. I doubt we'll ever get back to see it that way.

Well, I suppose...

hello from another one who witnessed implosion of IIDB :)

Infidels. org still exists, but yeah, the forum is gone

http://www.freeratio.org/index.php and http://www.secularcafe.org/ are the sites that took on most of the refugees, so to say, closely followed by RDF (and from RDF to here)

cheers

ps. it would be a really good study to examine life of online forums, why and how they come to existence and, almost by a default, eventually implode and split into fractions.
