Hello

#1  Postby Strontium Dog » Oct 19, 2015 2:13 pm

I hope there's no statute of limitations on these things, as I've been here a long time but have never done one before.

Hello everyone. I am Strontium Dog. My name is Danny. I come from the great city of Liverpool.

I used to be Strontium Dog at RDF, and I came here after He Who Shall Not Be Named took a wrecking ball to the place.

I am a Liberal Democrat, but don't hold that against me. Over three generations members of my family have been elected as representatives of all three major UK parties, so I'm not going to hate you just because you think differently to me. I would sooner find common ground with other people than put up brick walls on areas of disagreement.

I'm a liberal because I envisage a planet where individuals live enriched fulfilling lives of their own choosing, free of oppression and hatred, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and tolerance. I'm aiming high - so sue me.

I enjoy food (vegetarian), film, women, football (Liverpool FC, of course), natural history (especially avian), video games, electronic music, toys, travel and sunshine.

I dislike religion, conflict, bullies and moralising. All things that people use to wield undue influence over others.

Please play nice with me. I may be prickly on the outside, but I have a soft centre. Like a hedgehog, but without the eating of insects.
Liberal.

As a resident of North West and fan of birds, are you perchance familiar with the WWT reserve at Martin Mere?

Yes! I've been there maybe half a dozen times since I was a kid. One of a number of excellent sites for wildfowl and waders across the North West. And the captive bird collection is great for children.

Good to know and glad you approve of it. I try to make it over to Martin Mere at least once a year just to see how things are going, ideally during winter when all the migratory species are in. 5000 whooper swans on the Marsh (which I think was a record figure in the 1980s) is one helluva thing to see.

I'm a bit saddened that a lot of the drainage ditches around the reserve appear to have filled up over time. They used to be wonderful habitats for watervoles and during the summer months, when wandering the mere in the evenings I could see the voles in the ditches from the nearby footpaths. Being able to see a watervole from less than 6ft away was something I never fully appreciated as a kid.

Me too. That's because I'm a socialist.

I enjoy food (vegetarian), film, women, ... natural history (especially avian), ... travel and sunshine.
Wow. Me too.

This is uncanny ...

... without the eating of insects.
I suppose we should just let that one go. Oh, you said insects, not babies. As you were

I've not been part of your drama here, but hey, you seem like a pretty regular fellow. Why is everyone so on about you all the time? :)
Maybe you just need another, um, hedgehog? It worked for Shrek. Another ogre, that is.

Belated welcome SD.

Or is it a belated pre-welcome since you started here two weeks before me?

Wait! Shouldn't you be welcoming me?

Hello Danny and welcome to Rat Skep. Now I too think that all human beings should have mutual respect and tolerance for
each other. So while this is a Utopian vision it nonetheless should be the ideal to aim for. And I see you support the mighty Liverpool so that is another thumbs up from me. And nice that you are a Lib Dem for we are mostly left wing and naturally incline towards Labour. I hope your time here shall be both productive and enjoyable. And so glad to have you aboard man
