Why don't you introduce yourself here? 
Hey guys, my name is kevin and i'm an atheist...
As a child I was baptized roman catholic and my mom brought me to a RCC. This was while I was very young however, and as I grew up my mother stopped attending church and I didn't have to have dogma shoves down my throat. Given the freedom I was allowed as far as religion goes I was able to study quite a few of them throughout my life.
The notion that there must be god(s) of somesort just doesn't make sense to me. I do not understand why it must be, I have a pretty decent background in science most of my interest however lies in cosmology and biology.
I love arguing with religious fanatics... something that sucks however is that my girlfriend has recently turned into one of those religious fanatics. Sad but true.

Perhaps you could somehow try getting your girlfriend to join here, even as a lurker she might learn something!
