Hello, I'm Gnu Ordure.

You can just call me Gnu; I don't tend to use my surname very much, because it's a bit crap.

As you can see, I'm a wildebeest; rather a famous one actually, which is why I'm wearing shades to preserve my anonymity.

I'm not actually a wild beast; most of my friends in real life think I'm rather a pussycat, actually.

I know what you're thinking: "what? Gnu, pussycat?" But it's true.

So, what happens here?

A deep and abiding love for Slade, for a start.

If only because I come from their hometown.

I first saw them in a hotel in 1971, in front of 250 people, before they'd had any hits. We could tell they were going to be big.

So why did you choose a French word for your surname?

I didn't. Ordure has been an English word since the fourteenth century, when we stole it from the French.

But they stole it from the Latin, horridus, meaning horrid.

Plus ca change, etc...

Mr Woodchuckles was a woodchuck who lived in my backyard about 10 years ago. "He" is presumed dead of old age by now, so is referred to as The Ghost of Mr. Woodchuckles.

He's a deity now (in the spirit of The Flying Spaghetti Monster). Mr. Woodchuckles' specialty is being a savior to wild and pet animals, though he can reap harm upon humans if they fuck with animals or their habitat. Usually by sending relentless squirrels to live in their attics, sheds and porches, and to eat at their birdfeeders.

If humans are kind to animals and their habitat, Mr. Woodchuckles smiles down upon them. Which doesn't seem to do much good, but most or all of the people he's smiled down upon have not been attacked by any large animals, so it may be his protection that is given.
For instance, I was riding my bike today and encountered a loose, barking dog who ran up to me, but it's tail started wagging when he got close enough. 8-)

When I was a kid in the '60s, there was a tongue-twister about woodchucks which I never understood because there are no woodchucks in England:

"How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"

And I just found out that there's an answer to that question.

Yeah, it's odd that you have that tongue-twister in England. We had it too when I was growing up in the 70's/80's.
