Got word of the new place from hack.

On the day of its closing I noticed Mr Samsa wrote a post in the Science Discussion mentioning that we should all move over to Rationalia. And then from there, the rest is history. I like Rationalia as well, but I don't like cheese thaaat much.

Yeah, they're my sometimes forum.
It's great in its own way, but it doesn't capture the spirit of the original RDF like this one does.

I found the site from Google - searched for an atheist BOINC project and found a thread by StandardBredHorse (I think that was the user name) about a team. I am trying to be more active in the local group, but work is very busy (IT dropped from 4 to 2 in less than a year). They even put up local godless billboards (in Jacksonville, FL no less!) and I missed it. I was surprised in the local group that there are some non-skeptics in it - I guess I had ass-u-me-d that all atheists were skeptics. Anyway, glad to be here!

I have been checking the RDF for the past month or so waiting for it to come back.
I figured that somebody somewhere must be talking about it given the massive amount of members, so I searched the terms "richard dawkins forum controversy" and found athiestnexus with some comments linking me here. I recognised many of the names here, so I thought - this be the place!

I don't expect anyone to remember me, since I only had 282 posts, despite being a member since 2007.

I found out about RS.org from the Peter Harrison's blog. I wanted to join RDF, so I went there, registered, tried to post an introductory post, got an error back, realised there were no new posts for a couple of days already at that point, searched the web, found Peter Harrison's blog, learned about this place, came, registered, tried posting an introductory post, got not an error but a bunch of welcomes

I was PMing my friends on RD after the forum was closed. They encouraged me to join rationalia, and then I witnessed the birth (sort of!) of this wonderful place - the place I like to call "home" (in cyberspace anyway!)

I'm an atheist and rational thinker and look forward to learning something here as I did many things on the RD forum. I haven't posted in a while anywhere but the pathetic documentary by Nicky Campbell about Christian persecution funded by my money has my blood boiling - it's on right now in the UK on the BBC.

I read about the RDF mess in a blog post by someone I know. I had no idea there was such a community there otherwise I probably would have been involved ages ago. And so here I am!

Soopercynic threw me a PM lifeline on RDF.

I went to the pub, came back and found i could not use the forum. I then went to bed. A couple of days later, i tried again. No success. I visited the Tech part of the forum, which by this time had had the fuck edited out of it and found out the forum had been closed (read only).
I sent a PM to a couple of mods and got a reply, asking me to visit a different forum.

I have to say... It was like my parents had asked me to go to the shops for some milk, only to find on my return, said parents had moved house, without telling me.

Well, james, if it is any consolation, several of us were asking about you before you finally found your way here!

I was browsing the RDF.net forums unaware of them being closed until I saw someone say so in a comment which confused me together with the fact that I couldn't post any replies to anything. I saw the link to RS.org in a few avatars, came here and read the threads on that whole mess. Now I'm glad to be here even though I never was a very active poster. But for me the best thing was finding intelligent discussion on various topics of interest (without the need to contribute that often) and hopefully I'll find the same continued here.

Does anyone know the reason behind the RDF closure?
