WWGHA - Hey Jetson

#1  Postby shnozzola » Jan 08, 2012 8:32 pm

Hello folks,
I am a refugee from WWGHA. I have joined a few atheists forums over the last few days looking for a home. As I'm sure you all think highly of your site, we at WWGHA think alot of ours also. Thank you for allowing me to wonder in.

My guess is about 100 or so atheists from whywongodhealamputees.com are wondering around the net looking for a place to call home. I personally miss seeing Velkyn put her claws into an unsuspecting holier-than-thou Christian. My question is - what happened? Could you let me know, Jetson, if you see this thread. I :waah: miss the site. Are people looking to reconnect at atheistthinktank? I see there is no forum yet. There should be a way to mass email 100 or so folks to get us back together. I've also seen some atheist forums that are alive but have no activity - I wonder if a bunch could just move on in.

I may not have been much of a contributor, like you or Nick - but I am the world's greatest lurker 8-) . Did the collapse have something to do with Simple machines and the US SOPA? In a subtle way, a forum hosting company may eject the more controversial forums before others. I hope that is not the case, that is exactly what SOPA may cause. Scary times?

Hi shnozzola, welcome to the lifeboat for the rational mind, this forum was initially the refuge from those fleeing the Richard Dawkins forum disaster but has since become much more than that, welcome aboard and catch your breath, I know the feeling of being cast adrift even if it was for quite different reasons.

Whoa. I just tried to visit WWGHA. The index page throws up a fairly horrific SQL error message, something about the session tables being crashed and unrepairable. I'm tempted to ask what happened here, because you'd have to screw up regally maintenance wise to achieve this result through mere incompetence.

Nah, that happens with MySQL and Joomla as well if sessions are managed in the database and the database engine gets killed. Mostly seen on shared hosting. Happens about once every 18 months on a site I have. Trivial to flush it out e.g. go into phpmysqladmin and delete the smf_sessions table and then recreate it with something like...

CREATE TABLE smf_sessions ( session_id char(32) NOT NULL, last_update int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, data text NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (session_id) ) TYPE=MyISAM;

YMMV.

Shouldn't? I know several dozens of people around here (including me) who get rather agitated when it comes to that topic.
