Dont call yourself a 'wannabe' too quickly - a 'scientist' is defined as "one engaging in a systematic activity to acquire knowledge / an individual who uses the scientific method / one who performs research toward a more comprehensive understanding of nature." (wikipedia).

You dont necessarily need some kind of degree or job title or accomplishment - in fact, most of the history of science was carved out by individuals who were not 'professionals' so to speak, but were just interested in discovering things about nature and the universe. If you think this definition describes you, then congrats, you're a scientist!
