Laura K:
When it comes to likely Brexit deal, we've gone from 'exact same benefits', to 'frictionless trade', to some friction, to now a choice btw Canada style deal OR what govt is calling Australia deal which is not a deal, but WTO arrangement with tariffs and the Irish protocol

Interesting graph.

Quite a dip when there was the possibility of kicking the Tories out, but now they're set in power and pushing on with Brexit, I can't see it going back the other way again. Just a matter of when.

Depends, while Sassanach technically applies to 'Saxon' English folk, the term can serve for anybody not of Celtic stock.

Which is just another technicality. Here, everyone knows it means English.
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

Indeed. Although the two people who have used it in the last 2 pages were I'm guessing both English, referring in one case to "they" being Scotland? So taking offence might not make much sense :dunno:

If I'd used it, perhaps.

I mean it’s an offensive term. It’s not a term of endearment.

In Cork there's an English Market (in Gaelic An Margadh Sasanach)

and I do not find it offensive

Sure, agreed. I'm just suggesting an English person using it referring to "they might keep out the sassenachs ha ha" isn't being used as an insult.

Like me saying England might build a wall to keep out the jocks, ha ha.

Anyway, I wasn't actually involved in this spat.

Being the English person involved - you're correct, I wasn't using it as an insult.
