When laws are made on the basis of ideology rather than reason, this is entirely to be expected. Really, this should spell out to anyone reasonable that Gov. Greg Abbott should probably be supervised when operating kitchen appliances, let alone when making decisions that can affect other people.

Abbot is a cartoon-level bad governor. B-movie bad. So is his lieutenant governor.

Ideocracy & Idiocracy all in one... it's like the universe accidentally let this glitch occur and the laws of reality haven't quite had time to notice. Implosion incoming?

Probably. It's been steadily collapsing for a while now. Texas is crumbling. Power and road infrastructure are failing. I'm not sure what else, because I yearn to never go to Texas, ever. Or Florida.

Grotesque, but my first thought was "what could be more American?"

Illinois shooting: Six dead in 4 July parade shooting near Chicago(BBC)

The frequency of mass shootings in the USA really is ridiculous, and the total inability of US politicians to address the issue even more so.

Well, we can still get guns. That's the important thing, apparently.

It's just another day in paradise. :nono: So depressing.
Where's Ted Cruz to tell us we should only have one entrance and exit to rooftops during parades?

"Jill and I are shocked by the senseless gun violence that has yet again brought grief to an American community on this Independence Day,"
And perhaps we have a dumb Democrat here, the president. Shocked? How the hell could they be shocked? He's not kidding when he calls himself a gaff machine. :picard:

I'm shocked to learn that, I never knew it meant upset.

No, it's important that you do GET one, or ten, or however many you can fit safely or not in your house, car, pocket, office desk drawer, and pram (stroller in Murican!) If you have a free appendage and no gun to strap to it, then you're probably not really a true patriot!

Nobody? Better notify the relevant dictionaries of their mistake. ;)

Well I’m fucking shocked and disgusted, yet again, now to find out they found a little todler wandering about after the parade shooting in Chicago. Both its parents had been shot dead by suspect mister Crimo. Poor fucking thing!

Forget about background checks. Go actively hunt down those gun culture fanatics and their NRA overlords. Sick!

I get the point, but a reminder that this wasn’t in Chicago. It was a thirty minute drive outside. It’s like saying this happened in New York City when it really happened in New Rochelle.

Suburban Chicago, apparently, according to the article I read. But why is where exactly important?

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... ts-suicide

From the article:

“A local news outlet reported that a toddler found wandering alone after the shooting was the son of Irina and Kevin McCarthy, who were both killed.”

New Rochelle is suburban NYC. It’s important bc it’s being cast as a Chicago issue where gun shit happens all the time and is cast as typically by the right as black on black crime. As well, Chicago is a lightning rod for 2As bc they have a perceived ineffective gun ban. Saying this is Chicago muddies the waters in ways the 2As prefer.
