Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte wants Canada to come get tons of trash that was wrongly sent to his country — and he's threatening extreme steps if Canada doesn't clean up the situation. "We'll declare war against them," Duterte said Tuesday.

The president was referring to a large shipment of municipal trash that has sat in Manila since its arrival in 2013 and 2014. The more than 100 shipping containers had been declared to hold recyclable plastic. But when the doors were opened, customs officials found "household trash, plastic bottles and bags, newspapers, and used adult diapers," according to Filipino news outlet ABS-CBN.

I've heard about this practice but seem we like to keep it quiet.

not sure how well sourced this article is but I would be easily convinced that its cheaper for us to dump it elsewhere and keep the moral high ground *and clean hands.

Hopefully, where you live the health insurance companies pay for more than 2 per day (or you have money to buy more) because it could happen you'd be stuck in a used one for a good part of the day, albeit your own. It could happen to me too, so don't take it personally.

I'd like to see a Philipino Canadian war, the islanders might have a bigger army, but Canada has better training and equipment, plus I'd like to see whom the US will support.

Australia has been sending its rubbish to China for years. Thousands of tons of compressed shrink-wrapping, crushed plastic bottles and shit like that have been sent off to Chinese power plants, where it got incinerated to produce electricity. "Recycling" indeed. Into the atmosphere, I suppose.

Two years ago China put a stop to this. Since then the same crap finishes up being exported to other Asian countries, mainly Malaysia. Much of it no longer gets burnt, though. Now it just accumulates in the form of rubbish hills and landfill.

I posted this earlier at Ratz, but it deserves, nay it demands, to be seen. If the mere fact that Celine is covering AC/DC isn't enough, there's the trout pout air guitar intro and then the Chuck Berry duckwalk. If this isn't probable cause for immediate deportation proceedings then I don't know what the fuck would be.

Well of course Canada are doing this. They can barely move in their tiny country, whereas the Philippines has vast acres of space with no people.

Shipping rubbish back vaguely makes sense if it's actually going to be recycled and used in manufacturing again, but obviously that's not happening. It's like us banging on about China's CO2 emissions, as if the majority of them aren't caused manufacturing shit for us. East Asia has a huge problem with plastic waste, so I don't blame them for not wanting to take all of our crap too.
