If anyone's prep for this storm includes putting up plywood, today might be a good day to think about it.

This is a very good site and map. Incredible detail. You can inzoom to street level.
The NEMS model has resolution of 4 kms in Europe. Very detailed.

Keep in mind that those are computer models. Take them with a grain of salt.

Cool Scot, I like that.
The Bible is full of interest. It has noble poetry in it; and some clever fables; and some blood-drenched history; and some good morals; and a wealth of obscenity; and upwards of a thousand lies.

Fully realise that is why NEMS is good at only a 4 kms resolution compared to the GFS 22 kms resolution is a considerable improvement. It makes plenty of weather sites obsolete although the runs are quite short and cover a specific area. The European Center for Medium range Weather Forecasting model runs for a week its resolution is only 9 kms which while a vast improvement on the GFS it is still double the NEMS model but is world wide.

Satellite data indicate that Ophelia is now a Cat 3 Hurricane. It will probably be a Cat 1 when it gets to Ireland.

BBC reporting it will be an "ex" hurricane by the time it gets to West coast of England, Scotland and NI, so 70 - 80mph winds.

70 - 80 mph winds over England and Wales means BBC will be on 24hr disaster watch, hysterical news bods sent out to report live at 45° by a sea wall. 70 - 80mph winds in Scotland ... we call it weather.

How much are the gusts going to be? I agree 70-80 mph are for Scots gales but the models I have seen say gusts of 150 kph which is about 95 mph. A touch nasty.

That's hurricane speed, it will be that strong approaching Ireland, but lower further east and when it reaches Scotland.

Our government and people don't have a clue about handling this type of situation. I hope it's not too severe.

I thought it would be comparable to the non-tropical powerful storms y'all have been getting in fall and winter.

We were at sea in a big cruise ship when we got hit with 60 knot winds - Force 11.....classed just below hurricane.
Reports were it was the worst in 30 years tho the ship barely felt it. It was neat to experience ...tho we did make the error of cracking the balcony door ... :what:

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/faq/tornado/beaufort.html

This would have been the same gale likely

This Force 11

This was Force 10 as the one place mentions two separat
e systems.

These ships were going west while were going south east. It was sort of fun, Jude and I not bothered but lots of sick bags scattered about.

with gusts at 150 kph that's 80 knots ...30% + above those videos.

Nothing to trifle with no matter what ship.....bet there will be some big waves at Nazare
