The difference being the IRA...apart from some tiny splinter groups...only attack "military targets" or set a bomb and then give the public plenty of warning about it. That's why you saw so many videos of an empty street with a bomb exploding in the distance. My late great-aunt lived in Belfast and I still remember a letter from her (late 1970's) telling us she had been shopping, walked out of the store, and next thing "some lovely young soldiers" ushered her quickly down the street with a large group of shoppers. About fifteen minutes later a bomb went off in the street outside the store. They'd been given plenty of warning to clear the area. I remember laughing about her being annoyed that it was
most inconvenient because "the ice cream in my shopping bag had melted by the time I was able to get home"
The "current mob" doing it actually targets civilians with glee...

I saw something about some part of the bomb or some "ingredient" requiring it be kept cold? And the ice melted? Not sure where I saw that info though. It was something to do with one of the chemicals in the device.
