All done now apparently. Next installment is going to be what they do with them all. Between Cliven and Ammon Bundy, they've organised a pair of pretty big, fuck you gubment style stand off protests from behind seriously armed positions with militia style support. Be interesting to see what they get charged with.

They've called themselves patriots. My sense of justice demands that they be charged with treason.

I suspect they would wear that label as a badge of honor.

Not to say the charge isn't appropriate but I don't think they would see any conflict with how they view their brand of "patriotism" and being labeled a traitor to the US by the government.

I suspect you're right. Maybe we need to force them to read dictionaries in addition to charging them with treason. Maybe an ESL tutor can help them understand English. I mean, fuck, if they're going to live here, the least they can do is learn the fucking language!

I remember during the first Bundy standoff old Cliven ranting about how he doesn't recognize the US but then he gets up on his horse and rides around waving an American flag.

 The only things funnier than jokes about these guys are..... these guys.

If we could keep them disarmed so they're not able to hurt anybody, I wouldn't mind them staying in the public spotlight more. It's just that they're so clearly mentally unstable that I can't fully enjoy the humor of their irrational wibbling while they're capable of projecting lethal force.

Sedition and treason sounds fitting. They were calling for open, armed rebellion. Give them life without parole but suspend the sentence and ban them from owning anything more powerful than a knicker elastic catapult....instant jail if they so much as fart upwind of anyone.

Wouldn't any conviction of a crime automatically ban them from farting upwind of anyone?

Sounds like they're gearing up to throw the book at Bundy and co. Does it name the co-conspirators anywhere? Sounds like they're Ammon and others from the Oregon thing. There is reference to them being held elsewhere on federal charges.

One wonders why they took so long to go after Bundy senior.

Were they just waiting for some likeminded idiots to do something particularly stupid?

Maybe they've been preparing to be in a position to round up the ringleaders without creating the sort of stand off they had in round one with Bundy Sr. Serendipity maybe helped out by rounding up the Jr wingnuts in one spot in Oregon. Ammon and co are in some serious doo doo having gone multi state with this aren't they? Or are the charges all federal anyway. I never quite get where the lines are.
Tbh, the police/feds seem to have done a reasonable job of bringing some volatile, well armed dicks into custody without a Waco and it could've gone that way too easily. Just be good to see some sensible and proportionate justice dished out now.

On the PR side, it can't have hurt to have people making arses of themselves over an extended period about an issue where the people they were supposedly trying to help didn't want their help and the locals didn't generally seem to want them there either, or making grand statements about liberty or death and then surrendering, apart from one guy committing suicide by cop on video.

The conspiracy minded might wonder if the people involved really were that thick or deluded, or if someone put them up to it, yet the latter situation would seem to require people pretty thick or deluded.

The FBI have just scored an amazing amount of information about these right-wing anti-government militias and the people who support them.

With the exception of the suicide by cop, they handled this whole affair very well indeed. Nabbing Cliven is certainly the cherry on the top as well. What an arrogant dick thinking he could just waltz into Oregon and 'take control' of the situation. You can't carry guns on a plane so his 'bodyguards' were useless.
The problem with fantasies is you can't really insist that everyone else believes in yours, the other problem with fantasies is that most believers of fantasies eventually get around to doing exactly that.

I was frustrated by the double standard. However, it seems the convictions are a slam dunk now with all the broadcasting on social media, and having Cliven try to go to Oregon locked up his conviction, compared to just commenting from home. Public opinion was not in the militia's favour, and there was no shootout to create headlines. The one death didn't garner much sympathy, except for the most right wing fanatics. Well played all around. Even the sympathetic politicians/Leo's look very misguided.
We should probably go for a can of vegetables because not only would it be a huge improvement, you'd also be able to eat it at the end.

It's fine by me this was resolved without a hundred bullets flying.

An excellent article about the people who took over the empty buildings guarded by the ducks.

I went to the Malheur looking for kindred spirits. I found the mad, the fervent, the passionately misguided.
