Rex Tillerson.

Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was being replaced by CIA director Mike Pompeo.

Trump made the announcement via Twitter, also revealing that Gina Haspel, deputy director of the CIA, would replace Pompeo at the agency. She will be the first woman to hold the position.

The Washington Post reports that Trump asked Tillerson to step aside last Friday and the former Exxon Mobil executive cut short his trip to Africa to return to Washington Monday.

Yesterday...
...
Mr. McEntee was removed from the White House grounds on Monday afternoon without being allowed to collect his belongings, a White House official said. He left without his jacket, a second White House official said.

Another of Trump's "personal assistants", John McEntee, removed so quickly they had to send someone back in to get his jacket.

If Tillerson's gone, despite being integral to the whole Putin love-in axis in the Trump camp, this tells me that Trump is trying to put distance between himself and Tillerson, because someone's whispered in Trump's ear that Mueller has serious dirt on Tillerson.

Donald Trump’s personal assistant John McEntee escorted from the White House in the cold without his jacket

[snip]resident Donald Trump’s personal assistant John McEntee was escorted out of White House Monday but it’s unclear why.

According to the Wall Street Journal, two administration officials confirmed McEntee was canned, however, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders refused to comment.

“We don’t comment on personnel issues,” she said.

McEntee was one of the longest-serving aides to Trump and his position dates back to the early days of the campaign. Prior to that, it was mostly the president’s family that surrounded him, along with Stephen Miller, Dan Scavino and Hope Hicks.

He wasn’t well known in public but was constantly beside Trump for the last three years. His responsibilities consisted of having markers for Trump to sign autographs, delivering messages to the residence and ensuring the clocks in the White House residence were adjusted for daylight-savings.

Tillerson replacement, Mike Pompeo.

-- 9.8.17 - Reporting reveals CIA Director Mike Pompeo canceled a planned speech at the CIA about diversity and LGBTQ rights set to be given by Judy and Dennis Shepard, founders of the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

-- 8.27.17 - Reporting reveals CIA Director Mike Pompeo consulted with Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, an anti-LGBTQ hate group.

Prior to Service

-- Opposed repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, suggesting that "when you enter the army you give up a few of your rights." Also said of DADT repeal, "we cannot use military to promote social ideas that do not reflect the values of our nation."

-- Decried the US Supreme Court's 2015 ruling granting marriage equality to all fifty states as "a shocking abuse of power" that "flies in the face of centuries of shared understanding of our Constitution."

-- Has vowed to continue his fight abortion, marriage equality, and related matters "each and every day": "As a Kansan, I hold a deep reverence for the sanctity of life, the solidarity of family, and the solemnity of marriage. I will continue the fight to uphold these fundamental ideals each and every day. I am, and always will be, pro-life and will defend life from conception to natural death. I will continue to oppose any taxpayer funding for abortion. I also fully support the traditional institution of marriage. Strong families are the most important building block of our Republic, and we must preserve them for the sake of our community and our culture."

-- Co-sponsored two bills, the State Marriage Defense Act and the Marriage and Religious Freedom Act, both designed to undermine the effects of court rulings on marriage equality.

-- Denounced the Supreme Court rulings that struck down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California's Proposition 8 as "both sad and counter to the most profound tradition of our great nation."

-- His campaign once sent a tweet promoting the view that Pompeo's (Indian-American) opponent is a "turban topper" who "could be a muslim, a hindu, a buddhist etc who knows." (The campaign later apologized.)

-- Insists families with same-sex parents are less "ideal": "I think as you look back at civilization, look back at history, you find the strength of these families having a father and a mother is the ideal condition for childbearing," Pompeo said. "Doesn't mean there aren't great families with single parents, great young men and women raised without either parent. If you're asking for what is ideal, I think it's being raised by a man and a woman."

-- Joined the most conservative House Republicans on a letter calling on the Department of Defense to stop allowing military facilities for private functions to be used on a sexual-orientation natural basis.

-- Falsely claimed that "the silence of Muslim leaders has been deafening" in response to the Boston bombing, and suggested Islamic leaders were "potentially complicit" for not loudly enough condemning acts of terror.

We now all know, thanks to the Steel memo, that Rex Tillerson was appointed by Putin because Russia wanted the sanctions lifted. When it became clear those sanctions were going nowhere and Rex Tillerson was in no position to do anything about it, Tillerson has probably been looking for a way to just get out of the catastrophical administration asap.

I'm reading that the firing was for serious, though not Trump related, financial malarky. Hence, and obviously, he's been hired by the Trump2020 campaign team.

That revolving front door is spitting out unwanted Trump aides like a popcorn machine.
Still, at least he doesn't execute them with anti-aircraft weapons or nerve agents, so he has that going for him.

That's what they tell us. But mostly homophobia's down to garbage straight people. Just like cargo shorts and Ross Geller.
