WASHINGTON—Rushing toward the president as he pressed the eight-inch bit into his temple, several White House aides managed to wrestle a drill from Donald Trump’s hand Monday while he attempted to remove Obama’s listening device from his skull. “Obama implanted a microphone inside my head to record everything I say!” Trump reportedly shouted shortly before three White House staffers pinned him to the floor and pried apart his fingers to seize the power tool. “You don’t understand, he can hear everything we’re saying! Obama can even hear my thoughts! I have to get it out! I can feel it! I can feel it! I can feel it!” At press time, staffers were panicking after Trump locked himself in the bathroom and began cutting his stomach open with a razor blade in an attempt to find the tracking chip he said The New York Times had put in his food.

FBI’s Trump-Russia probe knocks White House on its heels

Trump’s team scrambles to contain fallout as Comey confirms investigation and debunks wiretapping claim.
By SHANE GOLDMACHER and MATTHEW NUSSBAUM 03/20/17 01:43 PM EDT Updated 03/20/17 03:37 PM EDT
The White House was knocked on the defensive Monday ahead of its biggest week yet on Capitol Hill as FBI Director James Comey confirmed the existence of an active investigation into Russia’s meddling in the presidential election, including whether there was any coordination with now-President Donald Trump’s team.

The dramatic revelation, made at a hearing of the House Intelligence Committee, dragged the Trump administration yet again back into uncomfortable territory just as it had hoped to highlight the smooth rollout of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, who began his confirmation hearings across the Capitol on Monday.

In another blow to Trump, Comey and National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers also publicly refuted his unsubstantiated claims on Twitter that President Barack Obama had ordered a wiretap of Trump Tower phones. The leaders of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees had said last week that Trump’s allegations were untrue.

“I have no information that supports those tweets, and we have looked carefully inside the FBI,” Comey said.

Besides the idea that communism is "left" has been out of date since the 1990s. Communism and socialism are not the same thing, not anymore at least.

Left wing politics is about creating social structures that benefit all of the population, and making everyone fair their fair share of taxes. While it has its roots in communism, socialism does not advocate that the state should own everything and control everything. Capitalism has its place. It's extreme profiteering and milking employees for everything that goes against socialism.

So please let's hear what is bad about making people take smaller bonuses and contribute more to tax?

What is bad about everyone having access to health care?

What is bad about people being allowed to choose what they want to do with their own bodies?

What is bad about people marrying the people they choose to have in their lives?

What is bad about the entire population having access to clean water, a decent education, working roads, a properly-funded police force, and people being protected from being exploited in the workplace?

What is bad about people being allowed to worship, or not, in whatever way they choose?

What is terrible about having leisure activities supported and funded from the government money pool, so that talented people can use their talents to earn a living, and thereby make leisure more pleasurable for all the people, making sure that public parks, preserved areas, wildlife, and the environment are protected against exploitation by people who only want to extract whatever they can from those areas, to make themselves even wealthier?

This isn't communism. This is being responsible and taking steps to make everyone who contributes towards the tax pool to have an equal chance to make the best of their lives. It is what people on the left of the political spectrum want, those "liberals" the right calls "commies" because the word conjures up the fears of the cold war:

Communism is where the state owns everything. Where no one, not even the president lives in comfort, but where everyone shares whatever space there is and possesses only what they need to make the wealth of the state and its war machine even bigger, and better. In communism, the president would only have an office in a palace where he/she makes treaties without other communists to wipe out capitalism by conducting war, especially war on citizens who don't toe the line.

The right wants the most wealthy people to pay as little tax as they can get away with. They want workers to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" even if they don't have boots with straps. They want people to starve or work longer hours for less money while they gather the wealth they gain from charging exorbitant prices for the goods the workers make, but can't afford to buy, and to not pay taxes on the profits. They want small government that offers no protection to the people who make money for them, and as little education as the workers need to be able to do the most menial jobs while their family members, and connections do the more specialised work. They do not want anything, including arts, the humanities, and science to interfere with their moneymaking.

ETA: Here is a right-winger's dream come true.

I have no idea why that was posted to me as examples of Hedges being Pro-Russia. Did you quote the wrong post? Are you saying Heges is a communist?

I'm an idiot, I was responding to the post you were responding to. I should check before I hit "send". This discussion.

Mostly it's a reaction to the idea that "left is bad" and "liberalism is bad". I get a bit worked up when people see being in favour of social programmes to help the underdog, as being "a communist".

Yes I heard that on the news this morning. What is the problem with an iPad that you can't do with an iPhone? Also because the iPad doesn't have phone capability, why shouldn't a phone be more dangerous, that is if there's something dangerous you can do with a tablet. People who don't understand technology should not be allowed to speak about it.

Oh, this is really stupid. Have they forgotten that the Shoe Bomber was British?

If they're going to do this, it has to be a blanket ban. It has to apply to everyone for every flight. No exceptions. From what I've seen so far, all someone has to do to circumvent the ban is travel to an unaffected country first.

My Uncle once said that pretty soon, passengers wouldn't be allowed to take anything onboard airplanes, and would be required to strip naked, and put on hospital gowns before every flight.

Well, I won't be touring the States any time soon - my camera and associated equipment is a wee bit bigger than a 'phone...

And it's WiFi. Goodness knows what damage I can do with that. :what:

Wonder why Comey reported about the ongoing investigation into Clinton's emails but didn't bring up that they were also investigating Russian ties to Trumps campaign (which according to him began in July)?

Seems odd.

This is weird. Ivanka is given an office in the West Wing and security clearance? WTF

Ivanka Trump to receive West Wing office and access to classified information

'De facto First Lady' already sat in on meetings with Angela Merkel and Shinzo Abe

Ivanka Trump is reported to have been given a prominent role in the White House, despite not technically serving as a government employee.

Donald Trump’s daughter has set up an office in the West Wing, will be given government communication devices and be handed classified security clearance, according to her attorney.

The 35-year-old will also voluntarily comply with ethics rules even though she has no official position, will not be paid a salary, and will not be sworn in.

The latest developments follow Ms Trump, often hailed as the de facto First Lady of the property billionaire’s campaign, insisting she will play no formal role in her father’s administration.

The attorney Jamie Gorelick told Politico on Monday that Ms Trump will serve as the President’s “eyes and ears”.

“Having an adult child of the President who is actively engaged in the work of the administration is new ground,” admitted Ms Gorelick.

“Our view is that the conservative approach is for Ivanka to voluntarily comply with the rules that would apply if she were a government employee, even though she is not.”

That is a great question, you'd think a half-assed journalist would get there before you did [because you're not a big-time, WhiteHouse-covering journalist, nothing meant about you specifically]

Why is Trump holding campaign-style rallies three months after taking office? Is this normal? Who pays for these?

I've just seen a headline that all tourists from Africa are being denied visas for some the trade summit in California.

From the Guardian.

Hmmm I wonder if Trump thinks that Africa is a country? Refusing to let us in is going to cause some lost income I think.

This might be of substantially more consequence than the FBI investigation. States can move much faster than the feds, and won't have quite the political pressures of them either. From what I heard, Bharara's investigations were getting into some very interesting areas, interesting enough for Trump to about-face and fire him after saying he wouldn't. 180's for Trump often have no obvious purpose, but this one sure seems to.

The UK is doing the same, although their list of affected countries is slightly different:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/mar/21/uk-set-to-ban-laptops-on-flights-from-middle-east-countries

UK bans laptops and tablets on flights from six Middle East countries

Nothing larger than smartphone allowed in cabins on planes from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia

The UK government has announced a sweeping new cabin ban on all laptops and tablets on inbound flights from six Middle East countries – regulations that are wider than similar US restrictions.

The ban on anything electronic larger than a normal smartphone will affect direct flights from six countries: Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.

UK airlines will come under the ban, including British Airways, EasyJet, Jet2, Monarch, Thomas Cook and Thomson. Foreign carriers affected are Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airways, Atlas-Global Airlines, Middle East Airlines, Egyptair. Royal Jordanian, Tunis Air and Saudia.

Though the restrictions, effective immediately, will not apply to flights where UK travellers change planes in European airports, it is likely other European countries are considering similar restrictions.
