Republican Watch

People who say "Democrats are as bad as Republicans" are almost as bad as Republicans.

For discussion of politics, and what's going on in the world today.

I'm not posting in the wrong thread as I think of John Delaney as a Gerald Ford Republican. He should just drop out of the race and stop whining.

Will Hurd of Texas, the outgoing solitary African-American Republican in the House, has some advice for the GOP.

ETA: Hurd's district is about 70% Hispanic and went for Hillary Clinton in 2016, so there's some potential for flipping it in 2020.

“It’s a pleasure to be with you all today because you all know something that many of my colleagues don’t,” Hurd told the gathering. “If you’re at least the age of 40 in most places across this country you have to whisper that you’re a Republican,” he said. “This is a party that is shrinking. The party is not growing in some of the largest parts of our country,” he continued.

“Why is that? I’ll tell you. It’s real simple,” said Hurd. “Don’t be an asshole. Don’t be a racist. Don’t be a misogynist, right? Don’t be a homophobe. These are real basic things that we all should learn when we were in kindergarten.”

Hurd: 'I shouldn't be the only African-American Republican in the House'

Racism, misogyny, homophobia... nothing we haven't seen time and time again throughout history. This is what makes the Republican party the most dangerous political organization in human history:

ONLY 27% OF REPUBLICANS THINK CLIMATE CHANGE IS A 'MAJOR THREAT' TO THE UNITED STATES
According to a new poll, less than a third of Republicans think that climate change is a "major threat to the well-being of the United States."

A survey conducted by the Pew Research Institute asked respondents about several "serious global threats," including Russian influence, the Islamic State (ISIS) and North Korea's nuclear program.

Global climate change was far and away the most divisive issue: Only 27 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents agreed it was a threat, compared to 84 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents.

Among seven global issues included in a new survey, climate change ranks as the top international threat among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents (84% say it is major threat) and the lowest-ranked threat among Republicans and Republican leaners (27%).

Kentuckians are unhappy to say the least about Mitch McConnell. I hope this follows him around wherever he goes while on recess.

"Thoughts" and "prayers"

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell fractured his shoulder Sunday and is recovering at his home in Kentucky. McConnell’s spokesman said the senator tripped and fell on his patio and now plans to work from home while he recovers. McConnell “has been treated, released and is working from home in Louisville,” David Popp, his spokesman, said. “This afternoon he contacted Sens. Cornyn and Portman to express his deepest sympathies for the people of El Paso and Dayton and discuss the senseless tragedies of this weekend.”

Right? I was mimicking Trump's response to Elijah Cummings' house being broken into while he was at home. :nono:

What's truly disturbing about this is that apparently there are teens who like Mitch McConnell. I mean, wtf? :nono:
