Republican Watch

People who say "Democrats are as bad as Republicans" are almost as bad as Republicans.

Looking at a second day demonstrating an overwhelming lack of ability in the brewery party organisation stakes, I can't help feeling that the best move for the GOP at this point would be to eject the members of the Screaming Jesus Clown Car Posse from their ranks and bite the bullet of possibly losing control of Congress and the Speakership for 2 years.

This has the advantages of:

1.) Avoiding being seen as the clown car party that they will undoubtedly continue to be perceived as after 2 years of blocking and brinksmanship before the next election.

2.) Not being hobbled by having to pander to the clinically insane and delusional.

3.) Putting a distance between themselves and legal shitstorms that will continue around Trump, Santos, the Sedition Caucus and the events of Jan 6th.

Of course, I very much doubt they will do this.

The desire for personal power and money from the crazy gang will trump (pun intended) any loyalty to country, district or party and I'm not even sure if a mechanism exists to do this. (In the UK you'd be looking at a 3-line whip followed by withdrawal of the whip for those who don't toe the line. This can be risky as Liz Truss ably demonstrated).

Logically, this to my mind would be the best move. Logic doesn't apply to these people though.

Any thoughts from people with a better grasp of the mechanics involved?

*Edit: The above assumes that their actual goal isn't the establishment of an authoritarian theological dictatorship and the removal of democracy completely, something that seems by no means certain.

McCarthy is an absolute weathervane who's never seemingly had a problem of conscience or any issues with a rapid reversal of direction, even voting against his own bills. If he can't wrangle the republican herd then who can?

What the actual....

New Congresswoman Fights Rival Over Witchcraft Accusation (The Daily Beast via Yahoo)

Obvious loon goes on what is presumably a well regarded news outlet "The Bubba the Love Sponge Radio Show" and makes a bunch of weird and wild accusations about congresswoman.

So far so meh, it's hardly her fault and there are some funny people around.

So marshalling all the gravitas of her position she laughs and waves it off like any normal person employs high powered lawyers to demand the accuser retract the accusations.

She's a lawmaker and leader of the most powerful nation on the planet apparently, but still worries about what the devotees of Bubba the Love Sponge think.

She's proximate to people who control actual fucking nukes.

Maybe she should get together with Matt Hancock and Nadine Dorries? (Because we have equal fucking tools in power.)

(And don't get me started about the brats in the monarchy aiming for their own Jeremy Kyle special. Is it me just getting older or what? We seem to be led by ignorant fucking children with all the dignity and poise of a screaming 2 month old smeared in shit.)

(Erm, sorry, /rant)

BBC wrote:The vote ends

The seventh vote to choose a House Speaker has now ended, with McCarthy losing again.

The unofficial tally is:

McCarthy: 201
Jeffries: 212
Donalds: 19
Others: 1
Present: 1

218 votes are needed to become Speaker. It's unclear when they will move into an eighth round of voting.

After seven rounds we have 1412 votes cast for McCarthy, 1484 for Jeffries.

You realise that the only functioning parts of the Executive Branch are Democrat controlled.

There are for all practical purposes 3 parties in Congress now - and the smallest party doesn't want to play with anyone.

Can't link the video yet as I haven't seen it on YT, but it looks like Rep. Richard Hudson assaulted Rep. Mike Rodgers.

I hope this latest farce will remind McCarthy of just what these crackpots are and how involved they were with Trump and his insurrection.

How the Brazilian riot was stoked by Trump's election-denying allies

Across several episodes of his podcast and in social media posts, he and his guests stoked up allegations of a "stolen election" and shadowy forces. He promoted the hashtag #BrazilianSpring, and continued to encourage opposition even after Mr Bolsonaro himself appeared to accept the results.

Mr Bannon, the former White House chief strategist, was just one of several key allies of Donald Trump who followed the same strategy used to cast doubt on the results of the 2020 US presidential election.

And like what happened in Washington on 6 January 2021, those false reports and unproven rumours helped fuel a mob that smashed windows and stormed government buildings in an attempt to further their cause.

Whilst I'd love to claim credit, I already stole it from elsewhere - originator is unknown.

There's a nice update on the Santos situation here:

That's from Friday so there's not much more going to be happening until tomorrow (Monday). It does look like Santos is likely to be kicked out.

It's not for being a lying criminal though (I'm guessing too many GOP Reps would be caught by that). It's for scamming the seriously wealthy Republican donors. Messing with the money is a no-no.
