Republican Watch

People who say "Democrats are as bad as Republicans" are almost as bad as Republicans.

For discussion of politics, and what's going on in the world today.

There's been talk of a party split since Trump left office. I'll believe it when I see it, and when I do, I'll try to not be shocked when it's only a tiny proportion of Republicans because most of them have their heads shoved up Dear Leader's ass.

There most certainly is a split in that party. I see it here in Lewis County, Washington just about daily.

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene aggressively confronted Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Wednesday and falsely accused her of supporting “terrorists,” leading the New York congresswoman’s office to call on leadership to ensure that Congress remains “a safe, civil place for all Members and staff.”

Two Washington Post reporters witnessed Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) exit the House chamber late Wednesday afternoon ahead of Greene (Ga.), who shouted “Hey Alexandria” twice in an effort to get her attention. When Ocasio-Cortez did not stop walking, Greene picked up her pace and began shouting at her and asking why she supports antifa, a loosely knit group of far-left activists, and Black Lives Matter, falsely labeling them “terrorist” groups. Greene also shouted that Ocasio-Cortez was failing to defend her “radical socialist” beliefs by declining to publicly debate the freshman from Georgia.

“You don’t care about the American people,” Greene shouted. “Why do you support terrorists and antifa?”

Ocasio-Cortez did not stop to answer Greene, only turning around once and throwing her hands in the air in an exasperated motion. The two reporters were not close enough to hear what the New York congresswoman said, and her office declined to discuss her specific response.

Polling data shows that AOC has more name recognition among Republicans than she does among Democrats. This is what happens when Fox News makes someone a bogeyman to the right.

Heh, I've been telling people for some time, that the only way to deal with fascist scum, is to be relentlessly ruthless. Subject them to the same sort of 24/7 attack politics they've been using, but do it better. Pound them and all of their verminous and pestilential ideas all the way back to the primaeval slime. Exert relentless effort to expose them as the inhuman and pathological specimens that they are, and point out non stop in every medium that they have failed to be competent human beings, let alone public administrators.

It's time for those who value human decency, to recognise that we cannot coexist with sociopathic grifters, and to recognise that right wing "ideas" are a sociopolitical disease to be extirpated, that same way we extirpated rabies.

I would assume that any sane Democratic media person would be planning a huge tranche of attack ads aimed at the mid-terms highlighting the Repubs discarding of democracy in favour of oligarchic authoritarianism, or if that's too complicated at least pointing out how they have suppressed the vote and disenfranchised people (taken the vote away from), gerrymandered constituencies (fiddled the maps in their favour), accepted dark money contributions (Russian money= bad), etc, etc.

And just trying to put together the above has made me realise just how bloody difficult it is to explain to the lumpen Fox watching mass what the complicated words mean.

Best bet would probably be to make ads for the next series of the Handmaid's Tale with Cruz, McConnell and co. as Commanders. Shit, no, they'd probably think that was a good thing. Go the whole hog and Dress them as Nazis? Do they know what actual Nazis were and that they were bad? Deep-fake film of Trump strangling kittens? (there's probably some real footage somewhere).

I'm getting really depressed now.

How the fuck do you get through to people who at this stage still haven't realised what vile people the bulk of the Republican leadership represent?

"Nice" democrats keep pointing out the disjunction between the Republican membership (who mostly like what Biden is doing) and the Republican leadership, who actively work against the economic and COVID rescue plans that the membership seem to like. The trouble with that is that only a drooling moronic membership of idiots could possibly be so massively ignorant of what their leaders are actually doing when said leadership are so obviously working against their member's interests.

How the fuck do you get through to people who vote for a woman who believes in Jewish Space mind-control Lasers and isn't afraid to talk about it at length?

I guess it'll have to be basic and unsubtle with "Ted Cruz is a fascist", "Fascist = Bad" (and then I remembered the silly bastards couldn't even unpick what being "Anti-Antifa" actually meant....)

*Note: I do not wish to denigrate in any way the large number of intelligent US citizens, some of whom frequent this forum. (In the UK we had enough stupid people to vote for Brexit FFS, so we've no reason to feel superior) It's just that the armour-plated ignorance of a large chunk of the electorate I find incomprehensible.

Oh man, what a lawyer...

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/capitol-rioters-trump-defense-comes-up-again-and-again-will-it-make-a-difference

Watkins, the “Q Shaman” Jacob Chansley’s attorney, said his client had Asperger’s syndrome and indicated that Chansley’s mental state — and the impact of Trump’s “propaganda” efforts — would play a role in his case.

“A lot of these defendants — and I’m going to use this colloquial term, perhaps disrespectfully — but they’re all fucking short-bus people,” Watkins told TPM. “These are people with brain damage, they’re fucking retarded, they’re on the goddamn spectrum.”

“But they’re our brothers, our sisters, our neighbors, our coworkers — they’re part of our country. These aren’t bad people, they don’t have prior criminal history. Fuck, they were subjected to four-plus years of goddamn propaganda the likes of which the world has not seen since fucking Hitler.”

What's gonna work? All you have to do is look at Trump's strategy -- just say the same thing, over and over and over again, make it short and slogan-like, and just repeat it into the ground. Evidence doesn't matter to these people, heck the phrase doesn't even have to be in functional English. In no time at all, they'll be parroting it. I remember noticing this strategy when Trump first started and thinking, "Nobody's going to fall for this 1930's carnival barker act." But they did, so that's what you gotta do.

Typically special needs kids have their own bus for school, and since there are fewer of them their busses are smaller, aka short.

https://www.texastribune.org/2021/05/18/texas-heartbeat-bill-abortions-law/

Gov. Greg Abbott signs into law one of nation’s strictest abortion measures, banning procedure as early as six weeks into a pregnancy

Gov. Greg Abbott signed into a law Wednesday a measure that would prohibit in Texas abortions as early as six weeks — before some women know they are pregnant — and open the door for almost any private citizen to sue abortion providers and others.

The signing of the bill opens a new frontier in the battle over abortion restrictions as first-of-its-kind legal provisions — intended to make the law harder to block — are poised to be tested in the courts.

Abortion rights advocates have promised to challenge the new law, which they consider one of the most extreme nationwide and the strictest in Texas since the landmark Roe v. Wade decision. It would amount to an outright ban on abortions, as the six-week cutoff is two weeks after a missed menstrual cycle, opponents say.
