My dad was watching RT last night (as he does :? ) and all I caught was their guest on there saying that the Hong Kong protests were basically an American operation to stir up trouble, evident in the use on English on the signs and the fact one of the protest leaders met with an American official. What's clear is it's not a legitimate movement though.

Then they moved on to the protests in Honduras and took the opposite tack: power to the people!

That's what's known as 'fair and balanced reporting'. You're only allowed to blame every other thing on the shadowy hand of the US.

All the funnier when it's applied to a former British colony and the dark hand of MI6 would be more logical.

Oh, this dropped today. That tool of the CIA, Bellingcat, is apparently spying on me here. Because so many of the names in this piece look familiar. Blumenthal, Dore, Khalek, Johnstone, they're all there and all got paid.

Related to this thread. But I'm hoping it was just a tragic accident, honestly.

James Le Mesurier: White Helmets backer found dead near his home in Istanbul

A former British army officer, who helped start the “White Helmets”, an emergency response group in Syria, has been found dead near his home in Istanbul, just days after the Russian foreign ministry menaced him, accusing him of being a spy.

James Le Mesurier, 48, was the director of Mayday Rescue charity that trained members of the Syria Civil Defence, nicknamed the White Helmets, playing a major role in its creation in Turkey in 2013.

He was awarded an OBE for his work helping Syrians three years later.

The police have yet to confirm how Mr Le Mesurier died, but he is believed to have fallen from the balcony of his apartment in the Turkish city at dawn on Monday.

His death comes just three days after he was publicly attacked by Maria Zakharova, Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman, who on Friday claimed he was a “former agent of Britain’s MI6, who has been spotted all around the world”.

Assad has been deliberately targeting and killing white helmets for some time. I wouldn't bank on it being an accident.

It's probably a naive hope on my part. RT is already on the offensive about it, making sure more of Vanessa Beeley's nonsense gets out into the world.

Russia fails to stop new Syria chemical weapons probe
A bid by Russia to block funding for a new team that will identify culprits behind toxic attacks in Syria failed Thursday with member states at the global chemical watchdog overwhelmingly approving a new budget.

Moscow and its allies were trying to block next year's budget for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons – a move which would potentially have left the entire agency unable to operate – if it included money for the new Identification and Investigations Team (IIT).

But 106 member states voted in favor of the new budget on Thursday, broadly seen as a confidence vote in the OPCW's activities, while only 19 countries including Russia and China voted against.

"In light of this result the budget for 2020 is adopted," the Conference of State's Parties chairman said to applause.

The United States earlier accused Russia of a "cover-up" of the use of chemical weapons by its ally Damascus, at a tense annual meeting of the OPCW's 193 member countries in The Hague.

Watching for the last year as Russian state media, Wikileaks, British cranks (like Galloway and Hitchens), and segments of the anti-war left (that I've complained about here) all tried to spin leaks on this in Putin's and Assad's favour has been pretty enlightening.

Edit: And Tucker Carlson.

I feel like I'm harping on about this but this from back in August...they just come out and say it now.
“I support Russia because I agree with most of its foreign-policy stands. I want a multi-polar world. Were it not for Russia and Iran, with whom I also stand, then the black flag of ISIS would today be fluttering over Damascus.“

People on the left and the right. "Anti-war" people using the language of "the war on terror" while also calling their opponents neocons and warmongers. Remarkable.
