A brief recap of Santorum's highlights the last few days.

I've often wondered if the purpose of the religious right candidate is to appear so extremely insane as to make the rest of them look positively reasonable and moderate in comparison. Certainly, if that is the case, Santorum's efforts are even putting Mike Huckabee to shame.

Where are the moments of public ridecule? Where are the TV pundits laughing at his idiocy? Where are the media commentators ripping this idiots arguments to shreds? Where're the public debates with intelligent people? FFS America, if you dug up a dead person & offered them as the Republican candidate, they'd at least have the virtue of not be wrong every time they open their mouth.

It's an interesting question. When Lyndon Larouche was running for the Democratic Party's nomination he was mostly ignored, and what mainstream media attention he did get was completely negative. I honestly don't see how Santorum's position are any more rational or acceptable than Larouche's. The fact that Santorum is getting more voter support should not mean that his views receive more legitimacy than they warrant on their own merits.

The clown is actually gaining on Romney...!

Struggling Republican hopeful Mitt Romney faces a crucial TV debate on Wednesday as he fights to regain his White House pole position after a surge by Christian conservative Rick Santorum.

Romney's future hangs in the balance, as in a week's time he could either be restored as the frontrunner in the Republican presidential race or be left staring into a political abyss.

A Quinnipiac University poll out on Wednesday found Santorum leading Romney 35% to 26% among nationwide Republicans, followed by former House speaker Newt Gingrich at 14 and Texas congressman Ron Paul at 11.
(Emphasis added).
On a plus point...
But the poll found that Obama would defeat Santorum in a general election while an Obama-Romney face-off would be too close to call, adding fuel to Republican concerns about Santorum's electability.

Well if the Rethuglicons pick Santorum, Obama will practically wet himself with joy at the thought of going up against this clown.

My thoughts exactly! A Santorum nomination would likely give Obama a sure win in the November election. However, there's always the "outside chance" of a President Santorum. "Holy shit!" would be a thematically appropriate expletive.

Found this earlier, wanted to share.

Why Rick Santorum Would Have Killed My Daughter

Next month, my daughter Ella will turn 11 years old. She's a beautiful girl, with blond hair and green eyes. She's an amazing artist, a brilliant writer, and she can do the splits without even warming up.

And if I hadn't had an amniocentesis, she would have died the day she was born.

Just over 11 years ago, I received a call from my obstetrician's assistant to let me know that there was an anomaly in my recent blood test. "It's probably just a testing error," she assured me.

But when I returned the following week to have the blood test redone, the anomaly showed up again. There was a foreign antibody in my blood stream that shouldn't have been there. I was six months pregnant, and up to that point my pregnancy had been completely normal.

By gosh, since I'm a man of faith in a crazy ol' mythology, I can pretty much say any crazy ol' thing! And nobody can criticize me - because that would be attacking my faith!

Indeed, that story resonates with me all the more, because one of the former members of my Entomology Society made a seminal contribution to the battle to defeat Perinatal Rhesus Haemolytic Disease. His name was Cyril Clarke, and he arrived at the genetic basis for the disease via a highly unorthodox route. Namely, breeding butterflies.

Allow me to expand further.

In his spare time, Clarke spent long hours investigating the genetics of the inheritance of mimicry patterns in the butterfly Papilio dardanus. By performing carefully controlled trial matings and observing the outcome, he and a co-worker plotted the inheritance patterns, and deduced the underlying genetic mechanism. Hardly a useful scientific enterprise, one may initially think, but it turned out that these experiments were to have surprising ramifications for human medicine. Because, that former member of my Entomology Society was, at the same time, working as a doctor in a Liverpool hospital, not too far from where I live, and he was engaged in the task of solving a pressing medical problem as part of his paid work. He solved that pressing problem, namely the problem of Perinatal Rhesus Haemolytic Disease, and he solved it by realising, in a brilliant "Eureka moment", that the same inheritance patterns applied to the Rhesus factor in humans. Thus, he was able to devise an effective therapeutic course of treatment for the disease, plan its rational application, and as a result, turned a former killer of human babies into a minor inconvenience. It has been estimated that since Cyril Clarke alighted upon his "eureka discovery", and on the basis of this, devised an effective treatment for Perinatal Rhesus Haemolytic Disease, a million human lives have been saved by his work in the developed world. By contemplating "mere moving matter", Cyril Clarke saved a million human lives. Once again, without needing to spend time engaged in nebulous metaphysical navel gazing or filling his head with mythological candy floss.

It's also interesting to note that without the idea of commonality of genetic heritage, endemic to evolutionary theory, such a "Eureka moment" would likely have been impossible. But of course this is something else that Mr Frothy Mix doesn't want anyone to find out about.

Powerful story.

Indeed. It ilustrates quite clearly how religious fucktards like Santorum are completely oblivious to the rights of women. It's an element that the anti-choicers happily ignore, as if it's irrelevant to the discussion.

Whenever I wonder, How could people in this country believe and support the rabidly frothy fecal matter that regularly drops from Dick Santorum's mouth?, I look over my collection of wonderful Tea Party pictures to remind myself of the quality of the angry conservative electorate...

Santorum: Obama wants to 'indoctrinate' students by boosting college enrollment

DALLAS, Texas - [In an hour-long interview with conservative television host Glenn Beck,] Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum said Thursday that President Obama wants more young adults to go to college so they can undergo "indoctrination" to a secular world view.

[...]

On the president's efforts to boost college attendance, Santorum said, "I understand why Barack Obama wants to send every kid to college, because of their indoctrination mills, absolutely ... The indoctrination that is going on at the university level is a harm to our country."

He claimed that "62 percent of kids who go into college with a faith commitment leave without it," but declined to cite a source for the figure. And he floated the idea of requiring universities that receive public funds have "intellectual diversity" on campus.

[...]

A champion of home-schooling, Santorum also expanded on his vision of dramatically reduced involvement in public education by both the states and the federal government, although he was more exact about eliminating the present system than his plan for replacing it.

Religion correlates quite well with stupidity & ignorance. Keeping kids ignorant & promoting stupidity acts to promote religious belief. If you want America to be a Christian country, it has to be a stupid one too. The dumbing down of America is part of Santorum's policy for making the country a theocracy.
