The Feelbad Thread!

#1  Postby Ironclad » Nov 09, 2014 10:08 am

Maybe we could have called this thread, Iran Watch :dunno:

BBC

Thirty-two MPs have submitted a bill to parliament which proposes a punishment of 74 lashes for people caught playing with, stroking or exercising their dogs outdoors.

The bill says such activities "harm the Islamic culture and the safety and peace of mind of other people, especially women and children". The MPs say confiscated pets should be moved to "a zoo, forest or desert"

They really wanna suck the soul from people, eh. Perhaps these so-called hardliners were bullied at school, I dunno, but they are utter twats.

According to Radio Free Radio Liberty Europe, Iranian MPs say dog walking/petting is a, "blind imitation of decadent Western culture."

Idiots.

Citation for there being a correlation between being bullied at school and being an "utter twat" please.

Do you feel bad yet Ironclad?

Gingers can take it, having no soul makes you mutants invincible!

But seriously, hating dogs is high-level proof of being a badguy. It's like hating unicorns or lembas.

Sam and Frodo got pretty tired of it. Does that make bad people?

Well, the Jackson-hobbits handle them differently than the Tolkien-hobbits. The closest the book-hobbits comes to getting tired of Lembas is a single quote from Sam:

“'Only those, what d'you call 'em, lembas, Mr. Frodo. A fair supply. But they are better than naught, by a long bite. I never thought, though, when I first set tooth in them, that I should ever come to wish for a change. But I do now: a bit of plain bread, and a mug – aye, half a mug – of beer would go down proper.” – (Book IV Chapter 1, Taming of Sméagol.)

The worst thing Sam says in the book is that he'd like a single meal of variation, after months of non-stop elf bread. ^_^ Frodo doesn't even say that much, so much that some even surmise that his addiction for them is the reason why he cannot return to the land of the living after his trip, and must travel West! As Tolkien explains:

“22. In the book lembas has two functions. It is a 'machine' or device for making credible the long marches with little provision, in a world in which as I have said 'miles are miles'. But that is relatively unimportant. It also has a much larger significance, of what one might hesitatingly call a 'religious' kind. This becomes later apparent, especially in the chapter 'Mount Doom' (III 2135 and subsequently.” - (Letter #210)

“The lembas had a virtue without which they would long ago have lain down to die.” - (Book VI Chapter 3, Mount Doom.)

“'I can manage it. Lembas does put heart into you! A more wholesome sort of feeling, too, than the heat of that orc-draught.” (Book III, Chapter 3, The Uruk-Hai.)

Merry and Pippin seem to benefit them more in a mental way that a physical way. Perhaps we could say that lembas gave ‘strength’ according to the users needs. In their case the will to survive, memories of old are a sure way to relieve the mind of its current plight.

“Often in their hearts they thanked the Lady of Lórien for the gift of lembas, for they could eat of it and find new strength even as they ran.” – (Book III, Chapter 2, Riders of Rohan)

I guess that after months of non-stop playing with doggie-wogs, even good people might like a break. ;-) That's just a far cry from desiring to criminalise doggie-walking, like Orks hating the taste of lembas, destroying them rather than eat them.

BBC IN KENYA

About 100 people have been arrested in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, after a second woman was attacked for dressing indecently, police say.

The woman's clothes were torn off and she was assaulted and paraded along a road, police added.

The arrests in raids across the city were aimed at curbing the harassment of women, police said.

'Fivefold increase in terrorism fatalities since 9/11, says report.

'Terrorism is on the rise, with an almost fivefold increase in fatalities since 9/11, in spite of US-led efforts to combat it in the Middle East and elsewhere around the world, according to a report published on Tuesday.

'The Global Terrorism Index recorded almost 18,000 deaths last year, a jump of about 60% over the previous year. Four groups were responsible for most of them: Islamic State (Isis) in Iraq and Syria; Boko Haram in Nigeria; the Taliban in Afghanistan; and al-Qaida in various parts of the world.'

BBC

A clothes shop in Beijing has caused an outcry after putting up a sign banning Chinese customers, it's been reported.

The store is embroiled in a racism row after posting a sign which reads: "Chinese not admitted, except for staff", the official Beijing Youth Daily reports. By way of explanation, one of the shop's employees tells the paper some Chinese customers are "too annoying" and that "Chinese women often try lots of clothes but end up buying nothing."

Johannesburg - A 29-year-old man killed by a crocodile is the son of a staff member, the Kruger National Park said in a statement.

KNP said the crocodile killed Jacques van der Sandt on Wednesday night at the Skukuza Golf Course, adjacent to the staff village.

“These animals are not in good condition as they have just come out of hibernation,” SA National Parks disease ecologist Dr Danny Govender said in a joint statement.

“The animal was doing what naturally comes to them; hunting for food and unfortunately a life was lost in the process.”

Now this is sad.

BBC -

An animal charity is attempting to trace the owner of a dog that was abandoned at a railway station with its belongings in a suitcase.

The male Shar-Pei crossbreed was discovered tied to a railing outside Ayr station on 2 January.

The suitcase included the dog's pillow, toy, food bowl and food.
Dog looks really upset :waah:
