Something that will make everyone feel better...Lance Corporal William Windsor.

Goat.

There is a fantastic pub near Cardiff Castle called The Goat Major. There are regimental photos all over the place and one more than one semi official occasion the Goat Major (and Goat) has been in for a drink.

It's a nice little video, but I couldn't help wondering, considering the way the second tortoise kept following the first with his nose pressed against the first tortoise's nether regions, whether it was wanting to mate...which it obviously couldn't do if the first tortoise was on her back. :dunno:

 Nora, all in a good cause then. Both animals were ultimately happy I suppose.

Please someone tell me something to make me feel happier today.

I admit I did feel bad posting that, but I kept thinking "hmm... wonder what they edited out of that video?"

Which is not to deny that animals do help other animals. I have no doubt that this was the intent here:

Unfortunately I don't have the bandwidth to search for the video, but there's that one about the buffalo fighting off the crocs that were attacking one of them as well. It seems that animals are capable of doing that sort of thing.

(BBC) How to subdue a riot, English style.

A mosque has been praised for serving tea and biscuits to English Defence League supporters after the far-right group arranged a demonstration there.

About six people turned up to protest at the mosque in Bull Lane, York, on Sunday and were invited inside to play football with worshippers.

More than 100 supporters of the mosque had gone there after learning of the planned EDL protest.

Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu said the mosque's response was "fantastic".

He said: "Tea, biscuits, and football are a great and typically Yorkshire combination when it comes to disarming hostile and extremist views."

Hull Road ward councillor Neil Barnes said it had been a "proud moment for York".

He said: "I don't think I'll ever forget the day that the York Mosque tackled anger and hatred with peace and warmth - and I won't forget the sight of a Muslim offering a protester tea and biscuits with absolute sincerity."

OK ok, hardly a riot but I thought this was actually quite a nice, and surprising story. :coffee:

Thanks, Ironclad. Good to see you; I hope all's well with you too.

I'm in a bit of a rough time. Series of medical screwups, as a result of which I had to stop taking one of my psych meds temporarily; now going back on it - but ramping up slowly because it's too dangerous otherwise. It'll take a few months to get back to my maintenance dosage. In the meantime I'm trying my best to fight depression without it. Not easy. Could be a lot worse though.

Anyway, I'm glad to be back.

I'm sure I'm breaking a rule about posting something I've posted elsewhere, but this thread is incomplete without it:

orpheus wrote:Some of you might remember this - I've posted it on several fora (RDF, Rationalia) just because I love it so. I dare you to watch it without smiling. Can't be done. One of the comments on the YouTube page says it well:

Hang in there Orpheus. I was there about 2 years ago and my whole world collapsed. My doctor, my wife and a dear friend (here on the forum) got me through it.

I was an emotional wreck and couldn’t see an end to it.

I listened to this over and over again. He was a remarkable man and the world is a better place because of him.

Ha! I thought about posting that story here as well, but then I opted for a new thread. BTW apparently Pensioner was there(on the side of the angels, obviously).
