The Feelgood Thread!

#1  Postby Ironclad » Nov 14, 2012 9:35 pm

The world is swamped with bastards & bogged down with bullshit, so I thought it was about time we put on the rose-tinted sunglasses & scanned the sky for something nice in the news, for a change.
I'll try and update this thread, daily but feel free to add something yourselves.

Global news reports please, not kittunz or goggiez.

Armstrong The Good Giraffe. (BBC News.

A man who dresses up as a giraffe and carries out random acts of kindness towards people across Scotland has said he does it to feel good.

Twice a week Armstrong Baillie, 32, dons a furry suit his mother made him, before travelling to different places to do good deeds.

He calls himself The Good Giraffe and lives in Dundee with his girlfriend and her daughter.

Unemployed, Mr Baillie, said he busks using his kazoo and djembe drum then uses the donations to pay for the kind deeds.
He hitch-hikes to reach his destinations - but is only being able to be picked up by convertibles due to his long-necked suit.

He said: "It makes me happy when I see the difference in people when they see me in the suit. It makes them happy and it makes me feel cheery.

And there ya go.

Shooting for a better kind of shooting.

The program to reduce gun violence by promoting photography is called “Pixels for Pistols” and it aims to take guns off the streets by issuing a free Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH8 point-and-shoot camera to anyone who turns in a working firearm to the Winnipeg Police Service. Since the start of the month-long program on November 1, the department has already collected several hundred weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

“We’re recovering firearms by the hour,” says Jason Michalyshen, the spokesman for Winnipeg Police Service.

:this: is awesome. I still have a distaste for Winnipeg, but that's a good thing to see.

Japan's ninjas heading for extinction.

It's something, at least.

Oh, get the tissues out for this one. This is Eldad Hagar, a true dog whisperer, who with his wife Audrey rescues dogs off the streets. They take them home, clean them up, raise money for their vet bills and then find good homes for them.

This is the story of Fiona's rescue.

In October of this year Fiona was named ASPCA dog of the year. Eldad and Audrey went to NYC to see her get her award. Here is a picture of Fiona in her limo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/eldad75/81 ... otostream/

Eldad Hagar wrote:Two years ago we picked Fiona up with our Toyota, and yesterday she returned a favor and picked us up with her limousine.

All the dogs we rescue end up living better than we do :-)

Sorry Ironclad!

I wouldn't worry, Nora. You can just accuse him of being kittenist and goggiiiiiiist. That will shut him up.

I don't read or listen the news very much, so I have nothing to report.

He's an amazing person, IC. Very humble. One of the few personal charities I've donated to.

If you're on FB you should 'like' his page, as there's just story after story...

And the transformation of poor, scared-witless, flea-bit, starving creatures into bouncy well-fed tail-waggers is in my mind the true meaning of 'resurrection'.

94-Year-Old Granny Becomes Super Hero
When Frederika retired in her early 80s, retirement left her bored and a bit unhappy. As Fast Company reported, her doting grandson, Sacha Goldberger, began photographing her to help cheer her up and keep her active. After a couple of years, Mamika the superhero was born.

Ahehehehe.

Maybe she's what's needed to help the guys combat The Menopausal Mafia? ;) Or would she be on our side? :ask:

Lonesome George, last of a lost species? Maybe not. Scientists are pondering a possible resurrection, though it will be a, um, slow process.

Thought long and hard about posting this on the forum, but it's still one of the best 'flash mob' videos around. (It was, after all, filmed during the Christmas shopping season.)

When it's handy that two of 52 MLAs in the legislature are paramedics!

The work of the Nova Scotia legislature came to a sudden halt Monday night when MLA Jim Boudreau fell ill during a speech by the minister of economic development.

A police officer outside the chamber called 911 as two politicians – who were also paramedics – helped out.

"One of our members was feeling quite ill," said Dave Wilson, the minister of health. "So I just lent a hand with a fellow paramedic," he said of Chuck Porter.

I'm hearing MLA Jim is OK.

There isn't much in life that better than looking at a ginormous tower of Lego. So here is one!

Oh, and the boffins say a Lego tower could reach 3.5km in height before the bottom brick became crushed.
