It's complicated, but how can Lia compete? There has to be a satisfactory answer. The columnist writes at length about the road to women's professional sports becoming mainstream, yet supports denying transgender people the same right. Like I said, it's complicated and I'm not really knowledgeable enough to have an informed opinion.
I probably wouldn't have called her a bad human, but that's because it's not my personality.

I think so, too. I don’t know how to do it, and gave no effort to its solution.

I think it’s a manufactured problem. It appears about one in thirty thousand people are trans women. Of that small slice, I wonder how many of transgender women compete in sport of any kind? Of that smaller group, how many are doing so at an age where they seek an athletic scholarship to university?

I bet it isn’t very common.

The exclusion of the out-group is what earned Julie my scorn this morning. There’s a price to be paid for being a hired commentator.

I'm sure the situation is pretty rare. Especially in high school sports. The right just needs a bogeyman to pick on. They're not happy unless they're kicking people down. Passing legislation that's hideously anti-LGBTQ. I despise that.

The only difference between the Taliban in Afghanistan and the Taliban in Dumbfuckistan is one of scale. This is a screen grab of the headline articles on NPR.org, a moment ago:

We are abandoning Dumbfuckistan this summer. Actually, on the first day of summer, we roll.

This place is too full of simply bad people, and the assaults on my values are simply too numerous to bear. We can move, so we’re going to do so.

The Metatrix’ family is in northern New York state, which is our target location. Her parents have an apartment waiting for us, so we have housing the day we arrive.

We are shipping very little. No furniture or appliances, just personal effects. The stuff that’s in the furniture, that sort of thing. We’ve been offloading stuff that we don’t need already. It’s actually a bit depressing to look at all the shit we have collected over the years, when we critically examine what we really need at the other end. We actually bought the place we have (and the last two, for that matter) with consideration for how our stuff would fit. I think perhaps that is a poor criteria for buying a house.

I’ve endured constitutional violations by a municipal corporation regarding our water since 2019. The only resolution to that is a suit in federal court, like I have the resources to achieve that. This is the main reason I am leaving, but not the only one. We have these fancy fucking constitutions here (federal and state), which sound nice. But there is literally no one, no agency, in government to intervene when some branch of government decides to ignore the constitution. Constitution? It’s a fucking rag. To prove that to the incredulous, pick up a camera and try to record some video of a local police station or jail. Pigs will crawl out of the fucking ground to piss on our first, fourth, and fifth amendments to our constitution.

Last year, the state of Washington passed a law forbidding police to question minors without a lawyer present (sixth amendment). The Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs actually released their legislative priorities to a repeal that law. These motherfuckers want to deny the sixth amendment protections to our children. They say so in public.

The final straw was county commissioners’ actions. They decided to make homeless people illegal on Lewis County land. The weakest among us, the most vulnerable, have no place on Lewis County property they can even exist. Fuck that Nazi bullshit. Of course, they’re ALL republicans (goes without saying, doesn’t it?).

The sheriff here enforces only those laws he approves of. He actually called those of us who abided by masking mandates when the pandemic hit sheep. He made no effort to enforce any of it, actually endangering lives.

Anyway, these are just examples. I have the ability to leave, I’m fucking leaving. I am a god damned refugee in my own fucking country. The same country I spent 25 years in the armed forces to defend. It appears I wasted my life doing that.

So this summer, it’s wagons east.

Dumbfuckistan will remain dumbfuckistan, and they will do it without me and my family.

I've been keeping in the back of my mind a trip from my place through western Maine, across the far north of NH, and cross from Vermont into NY north of Lake Champlain. Then I would head south along the great lakes to Buffalo, before heading east to Boston via the stunning Berkshires, and back home. Maybe I can meet FTE and Metatron at the same time. :) I wouldn't mind working NYC into the trip too, but it's been kind of randomly violent lately. Luckily I've rarely used the subway system there! :nono:

It's funny ... I thought Washington was one of the saner states. Though my primary experience is that of Colville and Spokane.

Oh well.

I think a lot of it is, but mainly in the northwest, as you can see.

Last year, the state passed a law forcing police to protect minors’ rights to be secure in their persons and effects, their rights protecting them from self incrimination, and their rights to counsel, enshrined in our federal constitution’s fourth, fifth and sixth amendments.

Recently, the state association of pigs, commonly known as the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) published a list of things they want to see addressed in this year’s legislative term. That was where I learned these pigs are openly trying to weasel out of the new law requiring them to protect those rights when they contact minors.

Motherfuckers.

So, I penned a letter to the editor of our local newspaper.

Please go take a look: https://www.chronline.com/stories/lette ... ily,307789?

I am proud of this letter, and honestly surprised the local republican rag published it. I am the author, so here is my letter, in its entirety.

I write to discuss the recent Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs “legislative priorities” regarding RCW 13.40.740, which forces police to protect minors’ fourth, fifth and sixth amendment guaranteed constitutional rights: to be secure in our persons and effects, to remain silent and the right to counsel.

I’m going to address a few points from those “priorities.”

“Kids should have a choice.” Minors have no choices in many legal aspects of our society. Tobacco, alcohol, guns, voting, entering into contracts, etc. Kids often do not have a choice, and kids know it. This law exists to protect our children because they lack the judgment to make such choices.

“These laws prevent juveniles from talking about an investigation with law enforcement officers, taking away opportunities to declare their innocence or offer helpful information to an investigation.”

Nothing you can possibly say will motivate police to release you just because you declare your innocence. Nothing you say to them can ever help you, and you have no moral or legal obligation to help the police investigate you.

Police are allowed to lie to citizens in every state. Minors are especially susceptible to the professionally-developed interrogation techniques police will use against them. Kids are easily manipulated and police are using that to their advantage. Think I’m exaggerating? Read the article on The Innocence Project’s website, Five Facts about Police Deception and Youth You Should Know.

Do you know the state Office of Public Defender has a 24/7 hotline to provide minors that legal counsel? The police know it. They have to use it. That wasn’t included in their “legislative priorities,” was it? Remember what I said about the police lying to us? What they really dislike is the advice that legal counsel will give: Remain silent, no searches.

Here’s an important point: While the police are certainly allowed and do lie to you, you are not allowed to lie to them. Saying nothing is not lying. Remain silent.

You always have the right to remain silent. So, remain silent. Do not speak to police. Always demand counsel. Never consent to searches. If the police think they have probable cause or if they have a warrant, they will search what they want anyway. If they have neither of those and search, whatever they find is inadmissible.

To the police: Is my letter harsh? Maybe. As a matter of policy and training you lie to us. And now, you come after our kids’ constitutional rights. Where is the honor in these things? The constitutional rights we enjoy in America were put there to protect us from you and no others. Explain why we need constitutional amendments to protect ourselves from our own police.

You swore to uphold our constitution. In the face of these “legislative priorities” your leaders published, of what value are those oaths? RCW 13.40.740 forces police to protect our children’s constitutional rights. This law exists because police refuse to do so voluntarily.

Yes I am.

Winter is more severe there, and I’m going to figure out things to add to my business that will keep me busy during the off-season for bicycling.

Can you fix snowmobiles and snowblowers or sharpen blades?

Both of those would require more floor space than I am likely to control. I certainly have the ability to do those things, but it would require manufacturer support and training. Modern snowmobiles are certainly far more advanced than the old Ski-Doo machines I remember from my childhood! Without manufacturer support, no one would want to risk their warranties to have me do any work for them.

I was thinking perhaps something to do with cross country (not alpine) ski equipment and service. Mounting bindings and the like.
